So I bought my first 5 string and the B string is thicc (.170) but I got it set up for half a step down. I have ptsd flashbacks when I tune up and I’m just wondering if my strings would break if I ever wanted to tune back to B standard since the B string is so thick and it’s setup for half a step down
The B string will be fine going back to B standard, and a set up (action, neck etc) for 1/2 step down won’t make that big a difference that anything would go wrong
170? Wow that’s like a rolling pin,
And, no. You can’t break that string.
challenge accepted.
Oh my god.
I need to see proof that there’s a .170
I don’t believe in .170s.
I’ve never seen nor heard of one.
I very much want to see what a .170 looks like on a 5 string.
That’s like smashing a D string into a B string to get… a fatter B string.
What are the gauges of the other strings?
And is your neck a regular wood neck with truss rod, or is it graphite or something?
As long as you know how to adjust your instrument and set it up, it should be fine, but if those other strings are also huge, it might just be a lot of strain, and you’ll have to make sure you’ve offset the tension with the truss rod.
And, please, if you can, take a photo of that Leviathan String.
I am in awe and shock.
its perfect
It’s so low I don’t think most people can actually hear the fundamental and you certainly cannot over Youtube. F#0 is 23.1Hz.
It’s the string of mud and violence
Sounds like a song title.
my new grunge band
yeah but he’s like 7 feet tall. “hold on, I’m getting an Uber to fret 3”
I would probably join that cult.
Trust me I did take a photo lol. I’m not keeping it in B standard for very long I’ll be drop tuning here soon but before I do I wanted to mess around the low B.
Also going up half a step didn’t give me any issues so we’re good
