Whoa that’s a wild bit of trivia! I do leatherworking and had no idea. I don’t know if all Tandy Leathers are like this, but the one closest to me definitely has Radio Shack scale of quality vibes. Some stuff there is good and a reasonable price, but others not so much. But I’m also very very spoiled to have an amazing independent leather wholesaler a short drive from where I live.
I was a Radio Shack nerd for years. Before I turned 18 all I wanted to do was work at Radio Shack and get a TRS-80 Color Computer (the Radio Shack “version” of the Commodore 64, Atari 400/800, Texas Instruments TI-99, and the Apple II). I collected the “Tandy Computer Whiz Kids” comic books that they would put out.
If memory serves, at least here in the US, Radio Shacks were mostly all company owned stores, whereas Tandy Leathers were usually all franchise stores. There were some exceptions, like the Radio Shack in Lake Arrowhead (Or was it Big Bear…? I don’t remember.) was a franchise store. So, most Radio Shacks all looked and operated the same, whereas Tandy Leathers were all kinda unique.
Have you managed other companies that have gone into bankruptcy or just Radio Shack? ![]()
Hahahahaah, it’s funny you ask that. I was a Service Merchandise department manager (Sight & Sound) for a couple of years. They’re gone too. ![]()
A few more bankruptcies and you can run for President ![]()
I worked in the warehouse of Service Merchandise in high school. I was one of the warehouse gophers. The other high schooler and I that closed most nights would have ourselves ready to go a half hour before the store closed so that once the customers were gone, we’d pop open the warehouse door and get high af while we were waiting for everyone up front to finish.
…you waited?
Hey now.
What happened to a non-political forum?
This is an interesting case. Joking about factual truths about political leaders is probably a slippery slope.
On the other hand, in 2025 the world’s ridiculous gaggle of political leaders are also just so damn fun to ridicule, and that’s a completely nonpartisan statement.
I agree with you.
Personally walk the middle path too.
However, we r still a non-politcal group
If the forum wants to change then have a political only section;
“Free for all”.
Same! First year I worked the register for the Christmas season. The following year I started in the warehouse. Loved that job!
Oh we should absolutely abstain from politics. What I meant was I read Barney’s comment more as a ribbing of the US in general than a particular political jab.
Hmmm! Tempting but we’d ended up losing lots of friends, ![]()
I’m a homeowner and a business owner in SoCal, I learned to get along well with everyone.

Very good question.
Absolutely not. That shit is everywhere for the wanton wallowing. Just say no.
Exactly what I was thinking myself. Thank you Mike C!
Point taken, and agree.
I would suggest also to not further derail this thread with more meta-discussion about this.
