100% agree and Ola mics his cabs with a SM58 too. Afaik the main difference between the 57 and 58 is the grill? He compares them both here .
Let’s just say I didn’t find it worth the money to buy the 57 just for that tiny bit of difference. I rather use DI anyway.

The grill and the shape of the area it is sensitive in, yeah. Otherwise they are close.
Love my SM58 and wish I had gone with it from the start.

What DAI do you have?
I have a Roland Duo-Capture mk2 USB audio interface.

After a little more research (there goes yesterdays practice sessions) I agree.

Somewhere in my stash I have several Behringer mics from many years ago.
If I can’t find them I will pick up an SM58 when the stores open again.
Ontario just went into full lockdown, AGAIN.
For now though I will go the DAI route until I need a mic.

Go SM57 if your focus is instrument. Go SM58 if your focus is vocal. They work both ways tho. Some Behringers mics aren’t that bad either!
From the Shure site:
The main difference is in the grille. The SM58 was designed for vocal applications, and therefore uses a ball grille with built in pop filter to eliminate plosives. The SM57 is designed as an instrument microphone, where a smaller grille size is more practical and plosives are less of a concern.
