very nice
Knowing how to play bass a bit gives a whole new appreciation for the Sisters and Bauhaus
David J is the man.
As is Craig Adams (from that Sisters track) and Patricia Morrison (from Floodlands)
Awesome, I’ve not that version of War Pigs before
I am (was) totally not a fan of this kind of rock (heavy metal? I’m not familiar).
But after having watched " Soaring Highs and Brutal Lows: The Voices of Women in Metal", which has quite a few Dutch female singers in it, all impressive personalities, I changed my mind.
Big fan now!
And this is a concert in Doornroosje, incidentally a location where I partied a lot (!!!) on House, Techno and Acid parties.
man i HATED this album when it came out.
being a KISS fan from 5th grade (Alive! timeframe), this thing made me so sad…
However - I have come to really really like it, some great tunes on it.
It sure is!
Our girl we used to giggle at (when her friends were a mannequin and a plant) has continued to evolve and just get better and better.
I’ve said it before, she is one of the most punk artists I have ever seen, in terms of the punk ethic.
LOL
“The punk ethos is primarily made up of beliefs such as non-conformity, anti-authoritarianism, anti-corporatism, a do-it-yourself ethic, anti-consumerist, anti-corporate greed, direct action, and not “selling out”.”
yes, exactly.
Watch enough of her stuff, you’ll eventually get it.
Or not, which just makes it even better (and more punk )
big hint: she’s punk in exactly the same way Devo was
Howard, I guess you are old enough to have at least experienced the end of punk (late 70s / early 80s).
So, try to imagine somebody like Poppy in those times? Would you have considered her a Punk? I mean … really??!
I remember Punk being raw, anti-establishment, non commercial, definitely non corporate!
I cannot imagine anybody in the Punk scene at the time doing brand promotions and advertisements, sorry!
In a way she as commercial as it gets!?
“Poppy earns money from YouTube ad revenue by getting many video views.”
“Poppy also makes money from brand promotions and advertisements on her social media platforms.”
Seriously, you either get it, or you don’t
Hahaha! I was thinking about Black Flag too.
So, you really think that Henry Rollins at the time (late 70s / early 80s) would have done advertisements, product placement etc.?
Really?
Can I ask if you have been part of the scene back then? I mean - actively involved? I was, unfortunately when Punk was already dying.
And I really believe, no - I know! - that this scene was free of commercialism. It was the very core of that movement!
Of course, all that changed later, when it became PINO (Punk In Name Only)…
EDIT Read “Get in the Van” by Henry Rollins, if you want to refresh your memory
