Sometimes a 3-string is the right tool for the job.

TSOL sometimes went post-punky and did well IMO.
Might be my favorite tune Damon’s ever done. With a side of Paul Simonon (Clash bassist) and Nick McCabe (the Verve) on guitars.
That’s super cool. Very very early-Blur Damon sounding too.
Yeah, it almost feels like it could have fit on Parklife. When they were doing this live, they were all dressed up in Victorian garb with Damon in a top hat playing the piano.
Solo Leveling!
Such a power trip good time!
So, yesterday, I celebrated the discovery of my dishwasher motor’s pedal tone by listening to Maynard Ferguson’s take on the theme from “Rocky”, which is supremely awesome but energetic to the point that when the song ends the listener is so amped up they could gnaw the bark off a tree. Great, but not well-suited to setting the mood for an evening of fine Merlot and amour.
So, today, I thought to myself, “Self, I wonder if there are other awesome theme songs that are smoother and mellower, but also basstastic, that one could chill for five minutes and forty-five seconds to.”
Turns out there are:
Readers of a certain age may recognize this as the theme song from a popular late-70s / early-80s sitcom. It’s also more proof—as if any were needed—that one of the sweetest sounds in modern jazz is when the bassist and the keys hit chords at the same time, staccato.
Enjoy…
No idea why YT offered this one up, but it’s a cool dance cover of Grace Jones’ “Nightclubbing”. Simple, driving bassline.
Youtube is on fire with its algorithm today!
PS In another video, the bassist plays a Maton Big Ben
I want to be listening to Kiyoshi. I got an alert on my phone she has new music out but at work
I think another Kiyoshi got mislabled
Oh man I love this! Had never heard of them, thanks!
Here’s some more. Solid post-punk/post-hardcore.
Nice work algorithm
Gogol Bordello is such an incredible live show. Highly, highly recommend if you haven’t caught them before.
