You do know you can take a 34" scale bass, tune it down a full tone, put a capo on the second fret, and play it like a shorty…
Yep, works just fine, massively expands choices
Would also eliminate A string buzz on Fenders.
The dots are even in the right places until you get to the (former) 12th

Yep, works just fine, massively expands choices
of both strings and basses
when was this, yesterday i think. just great (of course).

looks completely standard?
All of mine are in the same place at the back of the body.
Very standard position for a 34" scale.
On the other hand, here’s my 30" G&L Fullerton Deluxe Fallout. It’s got the longest reach to the first fret of any of my many shorties.
Yeah when a short scale pushes the bridge out rather than pulling the frets in closer, feels like it is kind of missing the point

feels like it is kind of missing the point
That was exactly the reason I did not get the Squier Paranormal Rascal. At the time it seemed like the ideal bass … except the vast amount of space behind the bridge, which made the geometry feel almost like a 34".
John Kahn on bass, 1/4/b7 in C . 12 bar blues makes for a sick jam.
The RH Factor. Jazz/Neo Soul fusion project by trumpeter Roy Hargrove. Lots of collaborators on the album - D’Angelo, Questlove, Erykah Badu, Q-Tip…
Here is a track with TWO BASSES! One electric and one upright. Best to listen on headphones (the basses are panned electric on left and acoustic on the right). And best to listen on better quality than a YT video.
Today, May 11th is, in many parts of the world at least, Mother’s Day. So I am mandated by law to send this along:
If you’re thinking of dedicating it to Mom, you should probably review the lyrics first. Just sayin’.
Stained concrete can be sealed and covered up… but will it ever go away?
How does one cover up any visions of the tragedy that was witnessed?
How does one find goodness in the loss; not that death is always good.
Good is death in many ways… and one must be a seeker of it if to continue this journey.
Death can be ugly, but the beauty of the person can overtake the reality of the scene left behind. I witnessed the suffering.
…blood and guts are generally attributed to the nickname of a bygone general… …though seeing the remains of just a sight is only a last piece of evidence and existence of one man.
I dealt with death at a very distant doorstep decades ago. It was put behind for the sake of the duty in front of me that needed to be done. I cannot ignore it at this age of sage. Years went by far too long ago, before realizations of experiences set in. Learn from it, do not shun it… don’t pass me by.
You were not a general, you were bigger in so many more ways.
Thank you, brother.
…every man has to die…
Very cool Thom Yorke project. It’s got this sort of krautrock made in 2025 thing going for it.
Anyone going Full Beato on GenY and GenZ for the quality of their pop music is completely full of shit.
Pop has gotten better over time, if anything.
Messing around a bit now with Hot Chocolate songs, Daydream - The Wallace collection and London Callin’ (The Clash).
Last week I looked at Mr Blue Sky (ELO)
