I was (barely) too young to be in to Joy Division - found out about them a couple years later - but I remember the day very well. It’s also the day Mt. St. Helens blew, which I was just 60 miles from at the time.
I was 2 at the time, so I don’t remember at all. I got into Joy Division through my Dad around 85 or so. He’d already gotten me into the Cure about a year before that (I was playing Pornography on that Fisher Price record player as a 6 year old). He and my Mom got married in 1985 so there was some major hero worship going on with me. Everything he did, I copied. Unknown Pleasures was the album of theirs that I had for 5 or 6 years, it’s still almost always the one I default to if I throw on JD.
One for before shutting down for the day. Here’s a very cool Colombian trio with a very talented lady bassist (the more, the better!). I hear some definite Hank Marvin influence. I think they would be a cool band to tour with the Surfrajettes.
