What bass should I choose

I have the opportunity to possibly get a Sadowsky MetroExpress 5-String PJ, or a schecter model t 5 exotic black limba. The sadowsky will be much lighter and have wider tone range and they are great instruments. The schecter will be heavy (11ish lb) warmer from what I’ve seen. I like the looks and what sounds I’ve read I would get out of the schecter. But I know the other is a really solid instrument as well. And wouldn’t be as much of pain literally to hold. Just wanna see if I can get some opinions from here to help me make up my mind.

I can offer this much. 1) If this is your first bass, I would dissuade you from a 5 string. learn on a 4 then advance if you want. 2) weight gets annoying after 3-4 hours of play. always consider the lighter instrument if you can. Both mine are tipping the scale at 9.5 ish and I have a 6 inch wide double leather strap to manage it.

I’m learning on a 4 now. This is an opportunity with a time limit but would be at no cost to me essentially. My playing would be at church so not hours on end of standing with it. 1 at best during rehearsals.

Don’t worry about “might bes”. Pick that one that looks & feels and sounds best to you. Comparing specs or tonal range never proved very useful to me. A bass that makes you want to play it is the best choice.

I’m leaning towards the schecter because it has a look that makes me say I want to play that more. But feel and sound are something I can’t compare. It would be a new bass either way but I would be ordering online. The funds are use or loose and it would be really no out of pocket cost so I figure little risk.

Get a bass that makes you excited to play it. The bass you pick up and play is your best sounding bass

I’m a fan of heavier basses because censored and also censored. Additionally, heavier instruments have more of a tendency toward censored, although people tend to argue and launch personal attacks towards other people’s preferences. Furthermore, you can pick up a set of small dumbbells and perform some simple shoulder exercises that will benefit you in other areas of life, and also alleviate the few extra pounds that the bass has. Climbers, hikers and SAS members commonly carry heavy packs over long distances and for days on end.

But, that said, I typically grab my lighter J bass for practice. I have P basses that are even lighter, but I still grab the J.

So, in the end, pick the one you most like the sound of, but swing by the discount retailer and pick up a set of small dumbbells. Do a search for the types of shoulder exercises that hockey players do, and increase your shoulder strength. Recovering from a torn rotator cuff is a long, slightly painful, and aggravating thing. Prevention is best.
