Whatcha Watchin'? The TV Thread

Loner life in another world

I swear only the English would make an intense crime drama and call it Peaky Blinders

Just found Slow Horses on Apple.
Gary Oldman is so good. Show is great.

Just watched the first two episodes of the new Star Wars series, Skeleton Crew. Goonies or Treasure Island in space, has promise so far

I heard it was good, but definitely made for the younglings

Unlike Rebels or Clone Wars, which looked like they were made for kids but were really sophisticated and adult themed.

(and I am still mad The Acolyte got canceled; most refreshing perspective the series has had since Clone Wars).

The most refreshing thing so far is no blatant Star Wars references or fan boy call outs which has, IMO, marred much of the Star Wars productions.
Skeleton Crew is for sure targeted towards a younger audience but with Disney cutting back production on everything there is little to choose from in the way of new titles. With their prices going up and new content going down it’s difficult to get value for money other than to watch anything that is vaguely interesting

Yeah I canceled Plus.

Yep, my wife’s been binging it too…

Just apropos - heard this the other day: “You know, Gary Newman is actually older than Gary Oldman”

I’m just not a big fan of the finale. A corrupt Jedi is not a Jedi, if not on the DarkSide, may be gray. I’m definitely for more Mandolorian than other series so far.

The finale had issues, sure.

A whole lot of the story outside of the middle three movies - Eps 1-3, Clone Wars, Andor, plus all the Old Republic stuff, and especially SWTOR - is basically showing that it’s not all black and white. The Republic is actually pretty corrupt, the Jedi Order has many, many issues, the Sith are a lot more nuanced than you think, and in general everything is not as simple as it seems - these things are pretty core to a lot of the storytelling outside of the main movies.

So while The Acolyte wasn’t perfect (by a long shot), at least it was trying to tell the right story. It totally makes sense that the Jedi Order in the High Republic had grown soft, corrupt and ineffective.

I think they do better with grey jedi more than not completely evil sith. I thought Skoll was the best try at that they’ve done to this point.

Yes! He’s great.

Early Dooku from Tales of the Jedi - also good.

And later Darth Maul in Clone Wars - very interesting character.

Great documentary about women in heavy metal! Must watch!!!

(Sorry, no Dua Lipa or Taylor Swift :-))

PS Many of them are Dutch singers, yeah!

Did they get Caro Tanghe? Probably not?

Don’t know - but they got charismatic, unasuming, funny singers with great voices. They are HUMANS, not soulless marketing inflatable doll singing automata…

We have a lot of fun watching this (as I type).

They have Floor and Alissa, none of the other big names (Tatiana, Suzuka, etc.)

Big names in HOLLAND

Caro’s gotten kind of obscure, I think Oathbreaker is over. She’s apparently still doing stuff with Amenra.

Just watched La Palma on NetFlix, kind of fantastical for the Norwegians! Entertaining! My wife went to bed at the end of the 3rd episode cliff hanger, I was too invested!

Dune series on HBO/Max is worth checking out. Especially if you like the more recent movies.
