Late to the parties but just finished Yellowjackets and Bad Sisters.

Both exceptional!!!
And I found myself strangely attracted to most of the women on both, which, could explain a lot about relationship issues I’ve had.

MobLand (not the movie) on paramount plus, I’m 2 episodes in, great cast and show. Pierce Brosnan, Tom Hardy, Helen Mirren. I do admit to watching it with the subtitles.

2nd the love for White Lotus season 3

New season of Righteous Gemstones is out, great show, the combo of Danny McBride and Walter Goggins is comedy gold. Check out Vice Principals if you want to see more.

The new season of 1923 is out, I’ll be honest, its kinda miserable, set back after set back, I’m having trouble finding the motivation to finish it…

If you’re into UK based mob stuff: “Gangs of London” is the sh#t!

First season: absolutely wonderful! Just crazy in a good way. I was like: whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat???!
2nd - also very good!
3rd - why, oh why? It’s better to know when to stop. And that was after the 2nd season…

Yeah, Gangs of London was good (didn’t catch the 3rd season)…Its really almost its own genre lately…Peaky Blinders, The Gentlemen, MobLand, Gangs of London

I couldn’t even get through the first episode before I deleted the series from my watchlist. Harrison Ford has done a lot of excellent work, and I’m a huge fan of Dame Helen Mirren, but 10-20 minutes in? That was all I could take. It just seemed to reinforce the idea that Apple TV+ is where great actors go to die.

Starting Andor season 2 tonight, high hopes based on season one.

Categorically wrong.

1923 is a great series, in my opinion. Great writing, cinematography, art direction, directing and acting. But all that never comes to fruition if you don’t actually watch the whole series

Secondly, the statement about Apple TV+ is ridiculously without merit.

Thirdly, 1923 is not streamed by Apple. It’s streamed by Paramount+.

Just rewatching “The Handmaid’s Tale”.

It’s interesting to watch it again after a few years. The world has changed and in some countries we can see how certain ideas dominate and certain groups are oppressed mre and more.

I found “The Handmaid’s Tale” already great when I watched it the first time. Now it’s even greater … and every episode leaves me with an uncomfortable feeling, as I can see so many things happening/developing in real life…

Recommended!

My favourite quote: “Praised be, bitch”

I stand corrected. I have MAX and Paramount+ and Apple TV+ as part of my Canal+ subscription.

I would if I could, but I can’t, so I won’t.

Good to know.

But that reflects not at all on its many merits.

Of course, your mileage may vary. So it goes.

Agree, but I have limited time for watching the “tube” (in my case, a 65" Sony Bravia OLED), so if a series doesn’t grab me right away, or puts me off somehow, I move on. I’ve occasionally watched a movie all the way through when I felt I should abandon it. But series? They are a real commitment, time-wise, so I’m a little more picky.

Same!

I tried to watch 1923, but it didn’t get me (yet). I have about every streaming service available and access to a lot of other content cause of my background in streaming/VOD.

There are so many other series to watch first:

  • You
  • Government Cheese
  • The Last of Us
  • The Righteous gemstones
  • The Studio
  • The Handmaid’s Tale
  • Hacks

So no reason to watch anything that does not have this je ne sais quo!

By the way - here you find good reviews to make selection easy:

Whatever works. Beauty and art might exist in the eye of the beholder, but it also is evaluated by many metrics that some might not recognize.

No big deal on not digging 1923. It exists as an exemplary piece of filmmaking nonetheless.

OK, I’ll give it a longer trial after I finish the final episodes of Season 3 of 3% on Netflix and the last 4 episodes of Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+.

Interesting, really! Can you be more specific? Is it like the Prichard Scale?

95% rating.

Yeah, but that’s not real (as in “objective”) metrics. I like Rotten Tomatoes a lot, but the ratings are just an indication, nothing more. And often more miss than hit lately. Things are not the same since Roger Ebert died.
Also, quality of content cannot be measured objectively anyway, in my opinion. That’s why I like that scene for “Dead Poets Society” so much!

Sponteaous example of peculiar ratings: “A Discovery of Witches” is rated 87%, while “The Handmaid’s Tale” is rated 83%.
Bosch: Legacy even has 100%, Reacher has 96% … but “True Detective” has merely 79%.

That does feel strange to me. Forgettable bubble gum content is rated higher than multi-dimensional cinematic entertainment?

WTF?
