Hear hear, I struggle with it too. I honestly wouldn’t mind if there were just no children in movies and TV ever. People complain about the 30-year-old teenagers in high school movies or whatever, but I’m okay with that, there’s absolutely no reason so many kids should be supporting their whole fucking family by working all day in Hollywood. It’s just weird that it’s even allowed.
I used to struggle too, I mean I grew up with Brooke Shields and what her mother put Brooke through…Pretty Baby anyone?..but watching Babymetal grow up some kids are meant for the stage. I swear Su was born with a microphone in her hand. When she was 6 or 7 she decided she would be an international rock star when she grew up and never waivered. So yes there are parents pushing their kids, but there are also kids who know what they want. My 2 sisters both decided on their careers in elementary school.
I have found a lot of good TV lately
Pluribus
Down Cemetary Road
The Beast In Me
All are stellar IMO
Love Pluribus and The Beast in Me.
Matthew Rhys rocks. What a great actor.
Death by Lightning is amazing. It’s a four-episode limited series, and it is rich with stellar acting and production values. Highly recommended.
Rewatching American Horror Story. I woulda watched 7 seasons of Coven.
With all the discussion of Death by Lightning and horror, I was thinking James Garfield, Reanimator, and getting a series 2 of Death by Lightning but make it horror
Reanimator and From Beyond are my two favorite comedy/horror movies, even ahead of Sam Raimi’s. Stuart Gordon was awesome, he was kind of like David Lynch in that he had cast regulars that he used in multiple movies, and they were awesome casting fits for them. Jeffrey Combs, Barbara Crampton, etc.
I was going down the Lovecraft route but that’s even better!
Well they are both based on Lovecraft stories ![]()
Finished Beast In Me and working on Pluribus, both great!
I was disappointed. And I expected so much, as three of my favourite actors play in it:
- Claire Danes, who plays Carrie in Homeland
- Matthew Rhys, who plays Philip Jennings in The Americans
- Jonathan Banks, who plays Mike Ehrmantraut in Breaking Bad
All three are really great actors that played in really great series.
But with “Beast In Me” I noticed that I watched it, started to work on my Computer while watching, and when I reached episode 7 I thought: “Not much happening”, they could have done all this in one episode. What’s all the fuzz about?
It was nice, listening to Jonathan Banks’ voice again. Still hate Walter White for killing Ehrmantraut!!!
After the final episode I did the only thing that’s worthy: start rewatching Homeland. The one series where Jazz really has a function (unlike Bosch) ![]()
Oh, and looking forward to Pluribus, cause Rhea Seehorn and Vince Gilligan!!!
I’m currently watching “The Tourist”, a series with Jamie Dornan who is a brilliant actor as he proved in the British series “The Fall”. Man, this guy gets beaten up so frequently in “The Tourist”. .. While the first season is set in Australia with a sparse but breathtaking landscape and odd people, the second season takes place in Ireland, also absolutely great landscape and even more odd people. I like this series very much even though it took me two attempts to get into it.
Working on a second run through of “Dark”! It’s still a maze the second time!
There are helpful graphics out there on the internet - they certainly helped me ![]()
That would help! By the end of one viewing period, I have it straight, but a sleep erases some of it!
Of course: spoiler alerts! (But, then, this is your second time…)

Sky Arts are showing a three part documentary, Greatest Basslines from the 28th of November. One episode guided by Peter Hook, one by Nate Mendel and one by Melissa Auf der Maur. Not sure about access for those outside Europe
Halfway through the first episode of Pluribus and my better half said “You’re just like her”
Yep
Also check out Slow Horses (same writer as Down Cemetery Road). I’m sure you have. The books are also worth a read because almost all the funny caustic dialogue comes straight from Mick Heron’s prose.
