What's an example of a "Perfect Song?"

I think my perfect song is possibly Santana’s Samba Pa Ti. It’ actually quite minimalist in its way, really quite simple yet sublime and ethereal. When I first bought Abaxas I always wanted it to be longer but when I first heard a longer live version I realised that it was almost exactly as long as it needed to be. Just exquisite!

Charles Mingus, Haitian Fight Song

Just throwin’ this one in here.

Have some patience when listening to the entire song…

“Happiness in Slavery” by Nine Inch Nails. Cause of the energy!

The video is absolutely NSFW and you need to be logged in at Vimeo to watch it. It’s not Taylor Swift, sorry…

If, in terms of a “perfect song” being that it is (was) created once and can never really be replicated ever again (either live or in studio), then perhaps the avante garde collection of sounds that was released on the White Album might fit this category.
I was maybe 6 or 7 when I first heard this and at the time I never really understood it… some 5+ decades later I am only slightly more able to appreciate it.

This song, without question. Such powerful vocals from Cornell, just a beautiful song really. The bass riff during the chorus is incredible as well.

Good choice. Chris Cornell was truly one of the best voices in music.

I (re) discovered “The Bare Necessities” (From “The Jungle Book”) while playing in the park. As kids come to me often asking “What are you doing?”, I decided to have one kid’s song for them.
In my opinion, this one is a perfect song: a great tune, magnificent singing and witty lyrics. Also the bass line is easy and fun to play!

Great song! That movie had good music in general. Louis Prima played King Louis. His version of “Just a Gigolo” with Keely Smith is my favorite version of the song, just so good.

Love this song too:

It has all the great properties of “The Bare Necessities”, but the bass line is too complicated for me to play … yet

I was invited on a holiday in a resort in Turkey. I hate resorts, but hey: it was for free.
Little did I kow that it was a “child friendly” resort. And our hotel room was facing the children’s entertainment area. I must have heared that song over a 100 times in one week!
I went through all 6 stages of denial: shock, numbness, disbelief, avoiding the situation, pretending everything is fine, and finally LOVING IT!

There are quite a lot of bass covers with tabs, like this one:

Now it’s your turn, @ed!

It’s cool. After Room 101, Winston loved Big Brother in the end too

Hah! That is some cruel and unusual punishment. Are you sure you didn’t get the wrong plane and end up in N Korea?

Oh that link is staying blue for my sanity

I actually started practicing it right after that holiday. My girlfriend forbid me to play it though, so that’s that.
After reading your post I was humming that song, and my girlfriend gave me a very loud “WTF???!!!”
She knows your name and where you live, so be careful, my friend!
