@kerushlow I don’t know if you were around the forum back when I originally posted this, but it’s Happy Birthday with the Tube Screamer on max drive, along with the POG octaver, reverb, and Bass Clone chorus. It sounds so weird, I named it Adams Family Birthday Song.

@PamPurrs if you’re interested in distortion pedals, give the Aftershock a look. Here is a bit of a full demo from Adam Arts:

Here’s a demo of the Alpha Omicron from Darkglass. Another great option.

All that being said, you can experiment with stacking your tube screamer into the overdrive of your Rumble. The Rumble V3 overdrive is highly underrated.

That pedal sounds awesome.
The problem with the overdrive on my Rumble, whenever I engage it, I get horrible and unbearable loud hissing noise from the speaker. I don’t even use it anymore for that reason. This just started when I switched from the Rumble 100 to the Rumble 500 amp head and 115 cab.

Not lacking on the low end! That was on the Hofner or BB?

It was on the BB, long before I got the Hofner

Come to think of it, it may have been on the Ibanez fretless. I don’t recall for sure.

You got me curious on new basses…not quite GAS, but a hollow body with some flat wounds, it’s a different tone and feel, kinda wonder what it would inspire in me!

Yeah, I can’t wait to get my hands on that Ibanez hollow body that I ordered to see what she can do. It’s supposed to be here Monday.

I kinda want an acoustic too. How is the Hofner acoustically? Project much sound?

You mean unplugged? I actually haven’t tried it. Maybe I should

Yeah not plugged in. I imagine it’s louder than a full electric solid body unplugged.

Idk if you got one or not, but EBS makes an high gain Overdrive that is every bit dirty and distortion in my book.
It is called Drive me Crazy
I like EBS pedals
I have seen mint and like new ones go as low as $65 with $7 shipping.

I nearly bought that one, but sat too long and it was sold.

I can find a video from Gregor.

It’s part of a 3 pedal series, with varying degrees of gain.
A low gain, mid gain and hi gain.

From what I heard of them, the Tube screamer would stand up to the Low or the mid gain not turned all the way up.

The mig gain turned up (gain turned up) gets pretty distortion
The ā€œDrive me Crazyā€. Hi gain is distortion from about 5 up to 10, and down lower maybe 2 it sounds tube screamer ish,
And it can do just simple overdrive, but only at the lowest of gain settings.

You may prefer the mid or hi gain. If you got low, it would be too much like what you have.

Let me find the video and see if you like any of them.
Keep in mind, the video is highlighting ā€œHow dirty they can getā€. And don’t spend a lot of time around the lower settings.
But if it’s something you think you may want, I can find more in depth videos of the pedal you choose.

There is a green pedal, low gain
Blue pedal - mid gain
Red - hi gain. ( drive me crazy)

The others have a name with drive in it, but I forget what they are

It would be good to know what sort of distortion you are after. There are many types. For example, a 60s rock fuzz type of sound versus a modern metal band sound. I’ve researched distortion pedals a LOT and for my purposes, which is more of an old school distortion, I like these two pedals:

The VMT is such a versatile pedal as you can see from the video. BTW, that’s one of the few Darkglass pedal demos you’ll see that isn’t metal.

Actually Pam you should probably just play with your Tube Screamer. For what you want (enhancing a Hofner) that kind of OD/Distortion is mostly what you want.

Thanks @JT… after watching those two demos I’m convinced that the TS9b Tube Screamer is all I need for distortion. thanks for clearing it up for me.

I agree with @howard, a TS9 is more an overdrive than a distortion mais it still have enough gain for a lot of uses.

This looks kinda promising for a fuzz!

yep I agree. you don’t really seem like someone that needs a super metal tone, just turn up the scream in the tube screamer.

the reason why I don’t like most distortion or almost any fuzz is your bass doesn’t sound like bass anymore, it sounds like guitar. which is probably exactly why people love them.

This is one reason I like Darkglass so much, though. All of their pedals, 100% of them, are all about preserving and boosting that bass. Many of them (and their signature sound) pump the low mids, scoop the high mids, and clank up the treble with the distortion.
