What's your Why?

I always wanted to learn the bass (yes, it is badass!!) but never had the time. Now that I’m retired, I have that time, and thanks to Josh’s course, I’m learning the correct technique, theory, variety of music, and it’s keeping me inspired. For now, it’s making me happy, but who knows where it might lead?

I’m a drummer that has always loved the sound of bass. I decided I didn’t just want to be a drummer that admires the sound of bass. I want to be a drummer AND a bassist that can make great bass sounds. So, well, here I am.

Already, being a drummer has helped me a lot in my bass journey. I’m looking forward to when I progress in bass enough that I start to see improvements in my drumming that is a result of my bass playing.

Another why is that I realized music takes away my stress and overall helps me enjoy life more. Having more music in my life by picking up another instrument doesn’t seem like a bad thing at all.

This ^^ Just chillin with a groove … big de-stresser

Discovering different styles of music is also fun… I ran into a bunch of stuff in the B2B course I would never have tried… and now love!

Starting as a drummer though gives you a solid edge on bass … you have rhythm, and you got a meter … great foundation.

I’m sorry for your loss, Linda. I’ve been playing bass for almost five years now and am in two bands. I never played an instrument before. The bass has been truly an instrument of healing for me with a similar circumstance to yours with very significant pain and loss. Stay with it! I can’t emphasize that enough! It brings goodness into your world in so many unforeseen ways. Your spirit is called to play for a reason. Live in the joy it offers and the connections it weaves. Wishing you many blessings!

@RA, thank you for the profound caring words of wisdom and blessings. I know I am blessed and where I am supposed to be…that is what I keep telling myself. You have made a difference. I am smiling.

You’re very welcome, Linda. I’m grateful for the kindnesses that I’ve found along this journey—even from unknowing folks at the grocery store or on the phone who touched my heart and made my day. When I’m feeling overwhelmed I just try to realign my internal compass to that goodness. That’s what I want my life to contain as much as possible.
