Thank goodness I found this post, Papas got a brand new bag was killing me, I feel a lot better knowing I’m not on my own, I’ll plug it for a few more days and then move on……… I’m not going to let it beat me !

Papas Got a Brand New Bag gave me more trouble than Billie Jean, I think. Didn’t really stick there because I followed the advice to move on, but it’s the only one I was never able to get at full speed.

I wish I had seen this post a few months ago. I tried and tried and tried Papas got a brand new bag. I just couldn’t do it so I haven’t picked up my bass for months now. I thought it was me just being rubbish but now I see others got stuck here too. Where do I go from here. I’m in a huge rut. It has literally been months since I picked up my bass.:cry:

for me, syncopation broke my brain when I first tried it, dunno why but just hitting a note out of beat from the drums was so hard, but couple of days and I got ower it :slight_smile:

Quite simply, you start playing again, today. Learning an instrument isn’t a competition. Not even with yourself. If you’re rubbish but you enjoy playing bass, rock that and play because you enjoy it.

Sorry to hear that you have been stuck, Cathy.

The first time in the course, I got stuck was in module 4, even before reaching Billy Jean. Since then, I have ended up getting stuck about once every module. Currently, I’m stuck in the beginning of module 8. :sweat_smile: In my case I find, that if I move forward, I will usually get stuck quickly after that again, due to lack in my skillset. At times I have felt defeated as well, when facing multiple challenges at the same time.

My strategy have been to identify, what is causing me to get stuck, and then basically going back to the start of the course, while focusing on my issue and then going through all modules again. By going back I found, that I get better each time and realize that I’ve improved, which help build some resilience for next time I get stuck.

It’s definitely not the most effective way to get through the course, but it seems to work for me. It has taken me almost a year to get halfway through the course, but I hope that it will work out for me in the end. I’m still not a good bassplayer, but still improving which is what keeps me motivated.

I hope that you find your motivation again and will be able start enjoying playing the bass again.

Start back a lesson or two (or three) to get your momentum back. Remember, if it’s a lttle easy, you’ll plow through it quickly.

Try to manage the slow workout, then move forward. Don’t glue yourself to Papa’s Bag. :joy:

Instead, you should move on and get back to it in a few months, or when you have finished the course. Then you’ll see how much you progressed. Remember that it’s important to have fun, and know that all of us got stuck at some point, so don’t worry too much. :slightly_smiling_face:

Well I’m old and do fine following along with music and instruction, but improv kills me. I don’t seem to be able to step out of a box and just jam.

Yeah - I let Papa enjoy his man bag on his own for a while. Came back to it later.
