Volume wise, my Yamaha is louder than the Fender. I’ve been trying to raise the pickups but for some reason they won’t get any higher and they just slope back down. I may need to get my guy to have a look at them
The Yamaha will absolutely sound more rich and full in the mids than the (comparatively scooped) J-bass. Big ceramic double humbuckers like that, and especially the neck one, are nice and juicy
@howard Here’s my first take after some adjustments. I had a hard time getting the song and my bass leveled to the point where I wasn’t booming or the back track wasn’t clipping all over. I put a VU meter on for the back track to and wow, is it all over the place. I couldn’t reduce it much as it was too quiet.
Anyway, my bass is still on the louder sound compared to the track, but I think it sounds much better. This is direct from the bass to the DI. Only FX was VU and gain. All neck pickup. for some reason my bridge pickup is very quiet so I’ll need to look into that.
I wasn’t playing for perfection so disregard the mistakes. There are many.
There are so many places to control the volume/gain.
Track control, Master control, fain filter
Soundcloud won’t let me upload it so here’s a Google Drive link
Haha yep, basically on each track, bus, and master, and between each plugin are all opportunities.
A simple strategy is to just dump it down at the input and then just keep an eye on it. Don’t be afraid to dump it more than you need to, you can always just bring it back up later. It’s all about making it easy to work with to get the sound you want.
The recording sounds just fine! It’s a little clunky but it isn’t terrible. I think you’re being hyper critical. I would turn the gain down and lower your volume in the mix. You’ll get less clang from the strings and you also won’t hear it as much.
