Wide or deep?

Glad to be of service.

Wide, with 4 currently. All different pup and string configurations. Mostly shorty’s.

I enjoy the differences in tone and feel and play each one every day, picking tunes that I think fit with each. It forces me to be flexible in my play style. For instance, I recently switched to floating thumb and one bass I only play with a pick.

That said, I understand the draw of going deep, as I have with my Martin guitars. Very consistent, comfortable feel and tone.

I did this for a while but I rapidly learned to mold bass tone to sound like I wanted from starting with any sufficiently rich and bright bass.

Are both your basses PJ?

Currently yes, historically no

I left out the collector part, which feeds the G.A.S.

Iirc you’ve historically been a soapbar enthusiast, so it’s kind of funny you only have single/split coils.

Yeah on 6-string I am fully a HH guy, and I have owned two double-buck basses. Loved them both.

But on bass I am really more of a P-pickup guy.

The only single coil pickup I really love is a P90 on guitars. Not a big fan of J pickups on bass, though I should give them another shot with a better J/J, maybe.

how about triple single coil with selectable passive/ active with passive tone control. 4 band EQ and selectable Series and Parallel all in a hum free package.

For me the closest I have found to a single coil I like on bass would be the Nordstrand Big Singles.

Thanks @MikeC
I own many basses that can do it all but this one is in another level altogether.

Are there any of those around near you?

On and off - they don’t make them every year. I can keep an eye out if you’re interested.

Looks like they actually have one listed themselves but it’s pretty steep:

You can get those over here at Thomann, but at a different price tag

Want to add another power in the gunmetal. Never thought I’d like green on a bass, but I think I’m in love.
