As a noob as I am, presented with music theory for the first time, some obvious questions arise but you feel a bit of a plank asking, as you assume everyone knows the answers…
Like why is there 12 notes?
Who chose the frequency of those notes and why?
Why not some other number of notes and frequencies?

Yes it’s nice to know some of the background, and the fact that it’s not a ‘given’ but also a bit of a practical compromise.
