2024 Bass Highlights / 2025 Bass Goals & Ambitions

I completed playing a 2nd year with my jam group, we don’t play out but I still try to nail the songs as best I can.
We have a changing setlist which means I am getting a huge repertoire of songs and learning how to learn quickly.
I am definitely improving and also getting a better idea of what I can and can’t do at this stage.
Getting more confident with playing outside the tab or recorded version, but trying not to overplay.
I have a number of basses and need to stop getting new ones , but I find that I do play them differently and for different reasons, nowhere near Al numbers.
I started learning guitar and will do a bit more on that, I don’t love it like bass but it is fun to make noises on it.
Next year, more of the same, I will probably look at some Talking Bass courses at some point.

Our band would do a head fake from the intro of Metallica’s Bells into Ugly Kid Joe - Hate Everything About You… :stuck_out_tongue: LOL

the looks we got … :stuck_out_tongue: It was mid 2nd set… so the crowd were already into the sauce, and cared not. :stuck_out_tongue:

Move along, not much to see here…
Started the year with ongoing frozen shoulder from about July 2023 so really wasn’t playing much of anything. I did start finger drumming in late July and have been playing guitar a bit in the 2nd half of the year.

I must have played a bit thought as I was still able to add some basic bass over a guitar riff challenge I recently recorded. Was happy with what the low end added.

2025
Not sure where the year will take me, but at least my shoulder is mostly ok.

  • Go back through B2B. I’ve completed once and dabbled back a few times, but thinking I should redo the whole course.
  • Record something at least once a month. Could be something original or a cover such as one of the 50 First Songs.

It took me a long time to find people but if you can it’s really worthwhile and it’s fun.

I’d be up for one, @JoshFossgreen, providing import into the U.K. isn’t prohibitive…

A basic BassBuzz shirt would be great… and for those that finished the course … a “Bass Badass” shirt would be EPIC!

2024:
My wife bought me an acoustic bass guitar for my birthday in June and I started B2B right away and hammered through Module 12 in about 2 months. Skipped Slap, currently in Module 15.
Started Sight Reading (talkingbass) in July and am about finished with Module 4 (Volume 2) and can sight read C, G, D, F and Bb major key signatures.
Started Chord Tones (talkingbass) in September and have memorized all major triads and major 7ths for all fingerings across the entire fretboard.
Tons of technique practice on proper alternate finger style and intentional raking.

2025
Complete B2B
Complete Sight Reading course
Memorize remaining triads and 7th arpeggios
Finally learn to slap
Walking bass (talkingbass)
