So…what are your bass highlights from 2024, and what are your goals and ambitions for 2025?
My highlight was I got rid of all my gaming gear … and decided to commit all that time wasted to going into something other than moving pixels on a screen.
Biggest highlight tho was getting Josh’s course… and started to actually ‘understand’ the bass.
For 2025… I’m just going to keep the process moving… keep learning … and having fun with music
Dive further into:
- Chords
- Harmonics
- Reading / hearing
- Fretlessing
- Learning
Recheck right hand as it limiting my play… and eventually have surgery… if improvement is possible.
Busy year…
I have issues with my fretting hand… my ring finger is insanely bad… it has a joint snap to it… if I try to move that finger to my palm (as tho fretting…) it gets very tense… then pops STRAIGHT to the palm… middle is starting to get that way too…
both wrists have carpal tunnel too … yay!
Old people issues I guess
Those ones for sure.
My right hand is still in recovery. I broke it this year… and it’s not recovering nicely. For example… fast plucking leaves me KO with pain and hand cramping… even with a straight wrist.
ooo… ow. Hope you get it sorted.
I’ve got that going on with my pinkie. It feels so odd, rather than a range of motion it’s more like an on/off switch, lol. I end up playing with a straight pinkie, which looks kinda weird. Old people issues indeed!
So highlights of 2024:
On 01-January-24, I had the bright idea to learn, record, and post a bass cover. This was my first bass cover, but it was also the first complete song I’d ever played, after decades of owning and noodling on guitars. I had a loose goal after doing that first one of posting at least one per month. With work craziness, I didn’t post every month, but the numbers worked out. If I post one in the next week, which I plan to, I’ll hit 20 for the year which completely blows my mind compared to where I was a year ago.
For 2025, I have a few goals:
- Keep up with the covers, see if I can make it to 30 for the year.
- Finish B2B - I’m still on module 10
- Start working on my TalkingBass material
Basically keep up with playing songs, but trying to find time to focus on the theory behind it - which should hopefully reduce the time required to learn new songs.
Last goal: jam with somebody live.
THIS!! Yes … exactly… it SUCKS!!
This was my highlight of the year. It marked four years of bass playing and took two years to learn.
That’s still so awesome.
First time I seen that… O … M … G !!! Just wow. Amazing
Big year for me (started in 2020).
- Joined a band
- Learned 30 songs for the set list
- played my first ever gig
- Got asked by the management at a venue to turn down my bass amp during a gig (very proud moment!)
2024 Bass Highlights
Deciding to play bass.
Deciding pretty quickly with no regrets on my starter bass
2025 Bass Goals and Ambitions
Complete Josh’s course,
Increase my finger reach,
Better learn notes on fretboard
Relax, feel the music more and maybe be able to nod my head or tap my
foot while playing
Keep playing, having fun, improving and evolving as a bitchin badass
bassist and as a good person.
2024 was not a stellar year for me on bass. Have wrist issues and was sidelined a while, fell out of the groove, queue violins.
2025 I want to get back to where I was. And finish B2B
I have the perfect set of basses for me and I just need to do it at this point. Probably on my pink Mustang with the DP126 as the neck profile is just perfect. For me at least. And put all the other basses away until I’m done
Thank you!
Thank you!
I’m still super jealous, yet ever hopeful!
I pretty much dropped off in 2024. My one highlight, and I greatly appreciate the inclusion, was taking part in the making of the “I’ll stand by you” collaboration for Pam. Other than that, other hobbies pushed bass into the background.
My goal for 2025 is to get back to it. Finish going through B2BA my 2nd time. Get back to some of the TalkingBass courses that I bought and are collecting digital dust. Get through the songs I was working on, including getting back to the 50 song challenge. That’s my hope anyway…
Wish everyone all the best for 2025…
2024 Highlights. Buying a bass and loving it. Buying another bass and loving it more
Finding Josh’s awesome videos, the B2B course, and this forum. You have all help keep me motivated, and I’ve got over my fear of playing in front of people, a little bit at least.
I really enjoy making the bass cover videos too, its a lot of fun.
2025 plans. I need to work on my technique, I’m still not very tidy.
Finish the BTB course. Which will no doubt help with the above!
Keep playing, keep improving. As long as I can look back at my videos and see progress, I’ll be happy.
I think I am getting better at remembering the songs now, I need to trust my abilities and be less glued to the Songsterr tab
Find some people in my area to jam with
Highlights: starting up B2B
Goals: finishing B2B, starting to work on covers, start (and hopefully finish) the 28 day ear training course I picked up, be more consistent with practicing.
