So, I recently got to check out the new Euro 4 LX bolt on and it literally blew my mind. I honestly have never heard any string instrument produce that kind of clarity and tone. It was really fun to mess around with. Whatever Dark Glass, EMG, and Spector have going on in this thing is working lol.
They only had one and didn’t have any through neck design LXs so I actually have not had a chance to play with one of those in person though. Which bings me to my question. I noticed the new Euro CST has essentially the same electronics as the LX, but a through neck and much better looking paint jobs and finishes to me (kinda classic Spector stuff from what I have seen thus far). Accordingly, it seems like the more interesting option. Am I missing something though? Is there something special about Spector bolt on basses or something? What are people’s thoughts about bolt on vs through neck generally and Spector Euros as a line of basses.
I’ve always loved the look but you probably want to play one a lot before pulling the trigger. I just did not gel with the LX/Euro body shape at all - I owned two Warwick Streamer LX’s and while not exactly the same they are very similar (being clones). I really wanted to love them but couldn’t.
It’s a bummer because I really love the way they look.
Love the neck through Spector Euro. Still regret letting mine go. First thing you’ll notice is the weight increase. Neck through usually slightly heavier to noticeably heavier it’s just the nature of having one piece (sandwiched) running from headstock down to the strap button.
That said you’d gain more comfort and greater access to the upper frets. In the case of the Spector the bowl carved back combined with the neck through construction would make for exceptionally comfortable bass.
The reverse P position makes for more balanced tone I just wish it’s the P/ MM instead of PJ.
Ah, that makes sense. Thank you both for sharing. I really like the PJ sound (I picked up a discontinued ESP P bass with a PJ set up). I am actually finding it more pleasing than my J bass. I also like the sound options available on a teched out dual humbucker bass. How does a PMM differ from those.
