Here’s a great video tutorial on programming MIDI funk bass lines. It uses EZBass, but other good bass plugins would work fine.

Cool. Nails a lot of funk stuff early in the vid (basic backbone is just the “one”, lead-in notes at the end of a measure, syncopation).
I love that his synth bias is showing as the bass timbre he picked from the plugin is very indistinct and not a very distinctive bass guitar tone - I’d have just gone with a synthbass there.
