5 String Basses Suck for Beginners (7 Reasons)

I’ve found the fretboard width on my 5 fits my hands better than my 4 stringers. I still default to playing the 4’s more but I love where my fingers sit on the five. Plus, having that built in thumb rest is awesome :joy:

Have been playing my 6-string multiscale a lot lately. It’s forced me to adjust. Can’t get away with lackadaisical muting, that’s for damn sure. Trying to get used to floating thumb technique. And between the 37" low B scale, the fanned frets, and errr… the two extra strings and wider fingerboard, I can’t count on muscle memory for much of anything. It sounds so good, though! Almost ready to do a cover, but not quite.
