Very true. And having lived in rural/remote areas (and now living in an area with 4 solid music stores nearby), I feel for the folks without that convenience. It’s hard not to spend hours researching online when it’s the only way to expand your knowledge of what’s available and what’s worth your money. Like Josh said, making a road trip, making it part of your vacation to pop in and try different instruments can be at least a partial solution — and is fun!
And yeah, I’ve had a few times when the in-person experience made it immediately obvious that such-and-such an instrument either was or wasn’t for me. I’ve spent hours on YouTube convincing myself that this is the one I want only to play it in person and be sorely disappointed.
It’s really the double-edged sword of our information era: this nearly endless selection of goods (each one buttressed or berated by hours worth of positive and negative written and/or audiovisual reviews) and yet just one finite existence. It’s psychological and philosophical and really does cause angst and what Sartre called “nausea.”
Although imperfect themselves, I think Josh and guys like Five-Watt World at least the well to remind us of what really matters — even as we are tempted to say, “well, if I had all the stuff you have, then I would be content.
It’s a constant human struggle, and frankly, it’s what keeps a great many of us employed. (Though I’m a teacher, so I, of course, float above this petty capitalism in an idyllic state of academic nirvana. )
I think we have found the Missing Mass. You can even see all the gravity distorting his room to the right. It’s no coincidence that that is where the Jazz Basses are.
I would say that what I like about it is that it is the best looking Jazz style bass that they offer by a large margin, and also are light, and with a better pickup selection than the other J-basses. It’s not my favorite Fender product but I like it way more than the vanilla Jazz.
yeah, I still prefer a classic P but yeah, I agree to what you say, except that I don’t really like the look of the Aerodyne’s. (but I’m neither a big fan of the classic J basses)
that’s why I’ve always wanted a JAZZMASTER BASS. how Fender could miss it ?
and I want it with a dual P pickups, please
so agree … I already said that many times but those chrome control plates are something that I really don’t like. I make an exception with the Tele plate because it’s not integrated in the pickguard shape, so it looks really different to me. it’s really OK on the Tele, but not on the Jazz, Jaguar and Mustang.
