7 Basses You Should NEVER Buy

Very true. And having lived in rural/remote areas (and now living in an area with 4 solid music stores nearby), I feel for the folks without that convenience. It’s hard not to spend hours researching online when it’s the only way to expand your knowledge of what’s available and what’s worth your money. Like Josh said, making a road trip, making it part of your vacation to pop in and try different instruments can be at least a partial solution — and is fun!

And yeah, I’ve had a few times when the in-person experience made it immediately obvious that such-and-such an instrument either was or wasn’t for me. I’ve spent hours on YouTube convincing myself that this is the one I want only to play it in person and be sorely disappointed.

It’s really the double-edged sword of our information era: this nearly endless selection of goods (each one buttressed or berated by hours worth of positive and negative written and/or audiovisual reviews) and yet just one finite existence. It’s psychological and philosophical and really does cause angst and what Sartre called “nausea.”

Although imperfect themselves, I think Josh and guys like Five-Watt World at least the well to remind us of what really matters — even as we are tempted to say, “well, if I had all the stuff you have, then I would be content.

It’s a constant human struggle, and frankly, it’s what keeps a great many of us employed. (Though I’m a teacher, so I, of course, float above this petty capitalism in an idyllic state of academic nirvana. :man_facepalming:t2:)

Oh man at this rate it will take you a few more years to catch up. I’m pretty low average here compared to most guys here

I think we have found the Missing Mass. You can even see all the gravity distorting his room to the right. It’s no coincidence that that is where the Jazz Basses are.

… makes me want a 7th bass :joy:

I’m well below average I only have 2 Fender Aerodyne at the moment compare to @John_E. He has enough to start a soccer team, lol.

Right or left?

There’s thanksgiving break coming up by the end of this week hopefully I could get to the shed and list some of the basses in there.

You and John are not average, LMAO.

Though you’re right, John alone probably has enough to bring the overall average up a lot.

sorry guys but I don’t really get what you all love about the Aerodyne series. could someone help me to see the light ? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I would say that what I like about it is that it is the best looking Jazz style bass that they offer by a large margin, and also are light, and with a better pickup selection than the other J-basses. It’s not my favorite Fender product but I like it way more than the vanilla Jazz.

yeah, I still prefer a classic P but yeah, I agree to what you say, except that I don’t really like the look of the Aerodyne’s. (but I’m neither a big fan of the classic J basses)

It’s all subjective. I don’t dislike the looks of the Aerodyne but I prefer a classic P or J too.

I would say I am probably P > Jaguar > Aerodyne > Jazz, for their basses’ looks.

Gotta kill that control plate on the Jag though. Especially if it has two; neither of them should be chrome IMO.

Funny how I went from “symmetry is beautiful” right to “symmetry? LMAO” there too

That Bongo looks amazing :star_struck:

When you see it in your photo I actually think it looks very unique compared to the rest. It has a bit of Dingwall vibe.

Kinda surprised really because I always associated Bongos with toilet seats :joy:

They all do!

that’s why I’ve always wanted a JAZZMASTER BASS. how Fender could miss it ?

and I want it with a dual P pickups, please

so agree … I already said that many times but those chrome control plates are something that I really don’t like. I make an exception with the Tele plate because it’s not integrated in the pickguard shape, so it looks really different to me. it’s really OK on the Tele, but not on the Jazz, Jaguar and Mustang.

Yeah that would be perfect

Yeah with a tele it’s kind of like a licence plate on a car. On a Jazz or Jag it looks more like Jaw’s dental work.
