808s and cover bands

I am wondering if you have any tips when a song uses 808s kick drums or really deep sub-bass, how does a bass player cover those super-low notes live? Since those lows are usually below a normal bass range, I’m curious how people pull it off on stage. Also, transcribing these are hard for me. How do you even pick specific notes? I am thinking about just following the guitar chord changes, but the original song definitely uses 808s as the bassline. I am trying to do Darlin’ by Chase Mathews, if that helps. Thanks for any advice!

I would opt for one of these.

d16 Nepheton 2, or Microtonic would be my choices

I should have said, something like this. I have never played that one specifically, but I did have an Alesis one similar but sold it and bought my first P bass.

Are we talking about an actual TR-808 kick here, or just using the term 808 for any deep sub-bass?

I wouldn’t use a bass guitar for either tbh

Well, I was actually asking about using a bass to emulate this sound. It’s not about preference. I have to do something to make the low end sound somewhat similar to these songs, and I can’t use the drum machines or similar tech that has been suggested. I need to use a bass guitar. The question is how do preforming musicians emulate synthesized bass sounds with a bass guitar.

bass synth pedal like the new MXR one, or a synthy octaver like the Boss OC-2 and its many clones
