Oh yes. The iem I mentioned is only 24 ohm. But using that, it becomes too loud and it started to give bit of static/noise
I’m amazed it works but I plug my 300 ohms Sennheiser HD580 into the Nux all the time. Sounds great and oh so comfortable to wear.
I don’t know the Nux that well as others but can’t you boost the effects via the app?
Don’t have Nux, but I remember some reviewer(s) complaining about the lack of physical volume control on the device (unlike Mustang Micro which has a volume knob).
Out of curiosity, have you tried adjusting gain/level like this (start at 1:49)?
Nope. Already cranked it as high as possible
I would like to update something. What I noticed was it was actually because of the tuning of my headphones. I noticed it when I bought a new headphones that was intended for basshead, and when I used it with the mighty plug, it gives me more than enough volume that I even had to crank the volume down a bit to make it more comfortable.
Recommendations on headphone “amps” to practice? Preferably with a bluetooth option.
Visiting family this weekend. Want to be able to practice while I’m away from home. Would rather not drag my amp along, and particularly don’t want to be a bad guest making a bunch of noise.
Not a wireless transmitter/receiver, but something I use with headphones while traveling. Would prefer to use with the bluetooth headphones I already have, but am fine if it’s 1/8" wired only.
Thanks in advance.
Before starting a new subject it’s always cool to do a search first to see if it’s already been discussed.
The bluetooth ones have a noticeable delay from when you play to what you hear. Go wired. Plenty of options…
Ehh… bluetooth headphones, sure.
But something like a Katana GO (a “headphone amp”) that plugs into your bass and you plug headphones into? There’s no latency there. And if you connect it to an audio source via Bluetooth so you can play along to it, you don’t have to worry about any latency there, as it’s irrelevant.
Not the case with a Katana Air-Bass. Of course, it costs as much as a beginner bass, so that system is absolutely not for everyone. Still, it’s an excellent Bluetooth headphone/amp system.
Steer clear of the Ashdown Tone Pocket.
Sound Quality is excellent.
But battery life is sub one hour and if you run it off the power supply it’s very noisey.
Quality control is very poor (the BT antenna on mine wasnt connected to the circuit board, I had to disassembele the Amp and reassemble it properly myself) and Ashdown support was useless.
+1 for the Katana GO. I use it daily outside in the park (if the German weather allows for it). It’s great! It’s sold out too…
Maybe a 2nd option would be the Positive Grid Spark Go?! I have it and was very happy with it until I got the Katana GO.
For your use case it would be great. NEVER use bluetooth headphones for playing, cause of the latency issue. On ANY device!
Bluetooth too much latency. Stick to wired for headphones. Makes sense. Thanks all for the alert.
Looking up recommendations, it looks like the Katana GO may have been discontinued. The Fender Mustang seems to be popping up as the replacement.
In an earlier thread, I saw the NUX MP-2 recommended highly. It’s $20 cheaper than the Fender.
There are some cheaper options on Amazon, but they all look like cheap Chinese knockoff of dubious quality.
Or I can get something inexpensive like this Vox unit if I don’t need the bluetooth in and just want to hear myself.
I mostly practice with my amp at home, so I’m questioning how much use I’ll get out of the bluetooth input. Probably a decent amount if I’ve got it. Especially if my wife wants to practice her guitar at the same time…
I’m leaning towards the NUX. I suspect the extra $20 on the Fender is for the name.
the katana go is by far the best if you can find one, they were recently discontinued. amazon has a million headphone bass/guitar amps, with various prices and quality. i used to have this one, and it did the job but wasn’t exactly high fidelity. worth it for the price, though IMO. (not bluetooth though).
I’ve got the mustang, it’s okay for what it is. It works with bass but was not built for it. The effects that come built in aren’t great. I’ve used it with my 6 string and it sounds better. It got me to upgrade to a digital interface and garageband pretty quickly when I got started. Just playing with a clean signal it’s fine though. I still use it when I go to guitar shops and kick tires because it’s a device that I know what my basses sound like through. So I know how to compare what I have to what I don’t.
Left field suggestion @BeerBaron but not completely out there suggestion is the Zoom B1 Four
Batteries or 9v options. Includes lots of fun amp sims and effects. Tuner and a drum machine for you to work on your timing.
It’s also peanuts for what you get. Lot’s of people on here are very happy with it.
It’s 1/4" out for the headphone which is normal for good quality headphones. But converters are cheap if you are using 3.5mm.

Oh! That is really cool. That looks just straight up useful in general. Regardless of this particular use I’m looking for. Thanks for this suggestion!
i think sometimes that 90% of us have had one at one point.
I have had two
(B1on and B3n)
