Kukri looked totally impractical to me until I got a small one (maybe 6" blade). Now I miss it, I ended up using that knife for everything, worked great.

Janakkala is an interesting place. They have found so many objects there, from the iron age, and the Middle-age.
The most famous find was the one you mentioned, in 2013 when they found a grave containing the skeleton of a warrior who died around 1300. There were several objects with him, some from the viking age, a sword from the time of the Crusaders from the 12th century, and above it was a iron age sword. It was an interesting mix of objects of Christian and pagan origins.
Yes, and it’s a reason spear heads are so common to find. Last year they found in Janakkala an “ango” type of throw-spear (ango is an Old High German word for this kind of spear). I found an article about this with photos, and they mention these spears were more common than swords because they were faster and much cheaper to produce than swords. These were often thrown at the enemy’s shields, such that the shields wouldn’t be easy to use.
