That seems to be when Flame Maple veneers were kind of peaking, or at least trending up. And I do love mine. We’ll see.
Roasted Maple necks - this is not the only (nor the first) heat treatment for necks; Yamaha has done heat treating for years on their MIJ instruments, without “roasting” them. I know there’s fans, but it just feels kind of faddy to me, like relicing. We’ll see.
Again, thermally aging guitars has been done for a long time. Even Gibson and others, lots of big brands. Common on acoustics. It’s not a new practice.
Roasted maple necks specifically are what seem faddy to me.
Right - which is part of why this seems faddy to me. A lot of thermal aging has been part of the normal processes for a lot of brands already, so touting the “roasting” and offering new colors for the necks seems like it is marketing-driven to a large extent.
I actually think they look awesome, love the color choices for maple finishes now.
lol yeah, just explaining why. I actually like the look a lot, not hating on it in general - it just kind of seems like the “Undercoating treatment” from car marketing in the ‘90s.
