umm, what’s that you say now?
Now that’s some next-level band drama
This is mind blowing levels of WTF
That dude turned up his bullshit to 11.
i don’t know how it started but me and a few friends have substituted all versions of “what the hell???” with homer’s line when we come across something this unbelievable, it just always fits.
I was doing some experimenting with camera settings, lighting, color grading and all that so I can improve at least the visual aspects of my bass cover videos.
Anyway, I couldn’t resist the opportunity for a bass-face animated GIF
(Though, ugh, the banding from being limited to a 256 color palette with GIF)
I can’t unsee that
Such irony in that statement!
(Wonder if John really said that or is it just a meme?
I went to look it up on the interwebs…
The first “answer” of the topic list that came back indicated it was AI generated.
I was somewhat taken aback a I am trying to keep AI anything as far away as possible.
The Wilson classic I Just Wasn’t Made For These Times is making sense more now than ever.)
Absolutely not. The quote is bullshit. None of the Beatles ever said it.
And AI had nothing to do with it.
Agree that AI had nothing to do with the “quote”… My reference to that technology was only insofar where I went to the webs to try and find an answer.
But moreover, the word(s) themself (whoever said it) is wrapped around itself to imply that Ringo is, in effect, the Greatest drummer… but the question remains the same: Is Ringo the Best drummer in the Beatles… or is he the best drummer?
AFAIK, the only other Beatle to play drums on their recordings was Paul. And while he was OK, he wasn’t anywhere near in Ringo’s league.
There are tons of videos on YouTube where some of today’s young drummers who have been Ringo bashers try to play his “basic” licks with the consistency, timing, and stamina that Ringo did. They came away from the experiments with respect.
Meanwhile, this is a deep dive into instrument swaps on Beatles recordings.
Needless to say, he’s a very lucky guy.
Re; Ringo… That Lennon faux-quote would be quite in keeping with the playful spirit the lads had. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he had said that in a press conference, but it would’ve been in jest - and I doubt he’d have said it when Ringo wasn’t present.
In a broader context, it’s probably fair to say that Ringo wasn’t the greatest drummer to have been in the Beatles as Pete Best was widely considered a better drummer - just not the right fit for the personalities.
In the spirit of the jibes they’d have shared at each others expense, I reckon Ringo could legitimately claim that The Beatles didn’t have a ‘real bassist’, given that Paul was a 6 string drop-out/convert.
The greatest drummer to have lived may never have even been in a band. Or maybe never even played drums. Such is lost potential in this world.
I wouldn’t have been surprised if Ringo had said it.
Ringo has always taken great pride in being a drummer.
He’s said that he considered his job to be support for the music, regardless of who was fronting the band on a particular tune. That humility and rock-steadiness has neither gone unnoticed nor unappreciated by his younger drum brethren he influenced.
