Are all bass players overthinking nerds?
For all practical purposes they are (on practically all modern instruments). When they are not, it’s context-dependent, and only of relevance from a “theoretical” point of view (e.g., the D# major triad is not D#-G-A#, but D#-F##-A# and situations like these).
