Roger Glover doppelganger…?

I was in Home Depot the other day and across the parking lot walking into the store was a person that looked vaguely similar (at least in my mind’s eye) a rather famous bass player. The person had his sunglasses on and was not smiling (as opposed to his photo below.)

As I was leaving about an hour later, he had his truck in front of the load-out door and was placing lumber onto his trailer. I usually ask if a fellow builders needs a hand if they have no helper assisting them.

When we were done he thanked me and I asked him if anyone ever mentioned to him that he looked similar to Roger Glover, the bassist for Deep Purple. He did not know who Glover was but he had heard of Deep Purple. I showed him an image on my phone and he agreed that there was perhaps an 80% -ish similarity (but he was better looking …LOL) … even the fork lift driver tended to agree on similarities. We got a good chuckle out of it.

As the load up finished, we all chatted a bit more to which “Roger” mentioned that the only musical “blood” in his family is a cousin in the southeast region (I think he said Virginia) and that his cousin’s name is Ian Gillan. I said “WHAT!!” I honestly thought he was busting my chops back for accusing him of looking like Roger Glover!

Well it turns out, he was not kidding me at all and he in fact has a musician cousin named (phonetically) Ian Gillan. But his cousin is actually Ian Gilliam and his band is the FireKings. What he said and what I heard (phonetically) were true, but it was referencing two different people.

We got a got chuckle of it all out of what started was an imagery of a famous bass guitarist. I guess a moral of this story could be: talk to people, you never know the stories and music tales that might come of it.

Anyway… Ian Gilliam & the FireKings:
