Advice When Adding Bass Sections to Existing Songs

Hello BazzBuzz forum,

I’ve recently started playing bass after playing primarily fingerstyle guitar for a while, and I’ve been having a blast.

One thing I used to do a lot on guitar was playing OSTs(from video games, movies, things like that). While revisiting some old favorites, there’s no bass section(as in, an actual bass guitar in the song), and the low end is handled by a piano/guitar, for example.

That leads to my question: how valid would it be to add a bass part to such songs? Where you ever able to get good results, or did it turn out to be underwhelming? (For reference, here’s a song where I’ve thought of adding a bass part: https://youtu.be/aP9by4Fqmdo?si=rCtA_zhcNbDmDqR5)

sure, anything can be done. nice if it sits nicely in the song. what i’m currently working on has a synth bass line and i plan to add a simple kind of lead bass line over it.

My first thought would be the fretless, it would add chills to the tune especially on the non bass part as it requires so little notes to make solid impact. A counter melody to the flute would sounds really nice too.
