Hello, I haven’t posted here in quite a while. I couldn’t find the megathread for this topic, maybe someone can help me out with that.
I just wanted to say i’ve spent nearly as much on lessons and books as I have bass gear and I’ve had books that were incredibly valuable to my development as a bassist. However, I am nearing completion on Mark’s “Creative Bassist” course on talking bass and everything I found valuable in those books is in that course.
It took me probably a year and a half of clawing my way through improvisational jam sessions to start scratching the surface of who I am as a bassist and what my sound is, but it would have been much shorter had this course been available then.
I don’t want to sound like a salesman but i truly believe in this course as the next stepping stone after B2B so i’ll try to answer questions I can about it. Thanks for your time.
Would you go right into Creative Bassist (I purchased it already) or do one more round of Bass Buzz like Josh suggests? Or should I just make sure I can complete the Super Badass Quiz? I was able to do all the Full workouts first time through (I was a sub-par guitarist in my past life), except my improv on jam with the band was a little weak at full speed. Probably need some more work on muting, sight reading (especially counting time on an unknown piece of music), identifying notes on the fretboard quickly. I can play Billie Jean and I Want You Back pretty cleanly, still struggling somewhat with the faster riffs on Ramble On as a benchmark of my ability.
It’s quite a long course and takes a while to really get into the complex parts of the course. I would say you could jump right in now and make it halfway through the first part without any trouble. Honestly it’s more of a “here’s what to practice and why it works and here’s a simple exercise to get you started” instead of a “run this gauntlet of difficult exercises” kind of program. I think you would be fine, personally.
