I just logged in to Paramount+ to find something to watch, and they were advertising “Eric Clapton Unplugged: 30 Years Later”.

Oof. I feel that.
Right!?
If that was 30 years ago, I was 17 then. Technically a minor still. At least I got that going for me.
I’m still trying to cope with 2016 being 9 years ago I feel like life has never gone back to normal since covid. I got my motorcycle in 2016 and I haven’t gone on a tour since 2019
Yep. Age has been on my mind as I’ve been wishing I started playing bass years ago
The passage of time is one of the few absolute constants we have yet it still surprises me regularly.
Every month someone from a favourite band seems to die.
Feelin’ old from “Eric Clapton UNPLUGGED 30 Years Later”??
30 years ago I woke up, smiled, proudly thinking to myself that I had actually become a Grandpa!!….
Then, I rolled over and as if being hit by a ton of bricks, looked at my wife and realized, “I’m now in bed sleeping with a GRANDMA!!”
Our oldest grandson turned 30 several days ago…… Our youngest turns 16 at the end of this week…. In between there are 11 more……
So for me I’d say, “Age is a Blessing”…
i totally feel when people say they see themselves reflected in something when they’re walking around and don’t recognize themselves. that’s me.
Same.
Wow, 30 years ago I was going through a divorce and had orders to a new Guided Missile Cruiser that was decommissioned 3 years ago!
Time flies!
I did my first tour on an FFG that I got video of them sinking during RIMPAC 2012. She got decommed in 2010. I felt a little pride that it took them 12 hours to sink her.
Which one was it? We sunk an old cruiser back in 92 When I was on the Chosin with a surface to surface Tomahawk. They had a F14 chasing the bird, blew that cruiser in half! Good old days!
The Crommelin (FFG-37) out of Pearl. The video of it, I saw them hit it with Harpoons, torpedoes, CIWS, and air to surface missiles from F-18s. She never broke up at the surface either. Eventually she just slipped under and was gone.
When were you in Pearl? I was there 91-93 on Chosin. I remember the Crommelin. Chosin got a new lease on life and made it through the modernization program. My other Cruiser, Vella Gulf was decommed 3 years ago.
I was there 96 - 00. I got to do line handlers on the pier to send her off on deployment on my way out of there. She was in the battlegroup on that deployment with the Cole when she got hit. A couple of buddies onboard said they earned 2 beers on that cruise.
1971-1972 when my submarine Sailfish (SS-572) went into shipyard drydock after returning from WestPac. There a few more times for transient stops to and from the Tonkin Gulf. Got a couple Sailor Jerry Originals to show for it - that was back when “Hotel Street” was known and referred to as “Shit Street” and the sidewalks on both sides were adorned with Tattoo Parlors, bars, Gypsies, pickpockets, Massage Parlors, Bath Houses, and of course those namesake “Hotels” with rooms available for “Hourly” rent…… Do remember being there for the 30th anniversary of Pearl Harbor Day on December 7th 1971…. Oh, and also the cree concerts that were held over New Years inside the Diamond Head bowl….
Hotel Street became something very different by the 90s when I was there. Not gentrified… but way different.
Love hotels for quick romantic getaways are such an ingrained part of Japan that it doesn’t seem weird to me at all. Big Japanese community in Hawaii, I wonder if they brought it with them
