Just to be transparent: I always only talked about the TI Rounds (as I have little to no experience with their flats). The discussion just magically turned towards the flats somehow
TI Jazz Rounds wonāt require nut filing, either.
So a little off topic, but Iām thinking of putting DR Blues on my new EHB, Do you think the round core will be a problem? Basically you put the string on, clamp it, tune it, then snip the ends off. I wonāt be able to put that kink in but think I will be okay. What do you think?
Good question!
I have really no experience with headless basses and how well the clamping mechanism is, but I would assume it is probably ābetterā than tuning pegs with respect to holding on to the strings very tightly.
I donāt recall having read anything about slippage for these particular basses, so I would think you should be OK. Have you tried ploughing a bit through TalkBass and perhaps find more on this particular issue!?!
I havenāt tried talk bass yet, thought I would check here first and there after a drink or two
It seems to me without the winding that itās a better situation, and that you donāt snip the ends until after itās in place and tuned, but sometimes things are in play that arenāt immediately apparent to a noob like me.
I did plough through some other forums, and glad I did. I saw reports on TI strings which unraveled in the clamp, and rendered them useless. They are round core. I also saw reports on DR Pure Blues doing just fine, which are also round core. So it seems some strings fare better than others.
Good to know
I could go all Tom Morello and just leave the silks waving in the air
Oh boy OCD kicking in just from reading this
I had a friend who used to leave them like that, annoyed the hell out of me and I remember him catching someone in the face while he was prancing on stage.
Idiot he was
Hah, interesting⦠I never had any issues with them on standard tuning pegs.
Nope. Me, neither.
How are they working out for you, @booker_t ??
They are here. Ordered them to try on the two active Foderaās; but, since they both just had set-ups and string changes (DR Blues), the TIās are a few months off.
Will set a reminder
I just got mine too a couple of days ago. Iāll put it on as soon as Iām over this āFluā. Donāt want to say the C word, . Took a day off today and still not chappy yet,
Hope you get well soon, Al!
Dude, hope you have a Covid test, you do it, and the result is negative.
Donāt mess around with that shit. The latest mutation has been spreading like crazy all over following the holiday gatherings.
Itās not. My sister had it and sheās cleared. I caught it from her. I thought it would be heaven but it was not fun, . Feeling much better but still has some congestion maybe another day off tomorrow would do me well.
Thanks @MikeC and @joergkutter you too @booker_t
Ok thanks to my friend @booker_t who gave me this wonderful gift of the pre DR strings, Fodera Nickel medium gauge Round Wound string 45-105 set at our last SoCal meetup.
I installed it on my Warwick Leland Sklar signature StarBass.
They sound great. I love the crispness of the high and pretty impressive low that Warwick is known to produce. They are very fast and transient the attack is quite in your face not lazy and taking their time. Iām loving it. If you get a chance to get one I highly recommend. Thanks again @booker_t, what were you thinking man, this is truly a gem.
A little demo just one take no regrets, every knob is center, it goes from direct box to my Zoom Q8N 4k and to my Final Cut Pro iPad Pro and finish up in my iMovie for title and filters, I know I gotta learn to do in on the Final Cut Pro, . @MikeC never had time for a private lesson. Please enjoy!
