Audio editors don’t allows for 3rd party plugins to be integrated with it. DAWs do.

Daws also have mixing capabilities and audio editors only edit audio. A daw mostly do what an audio editor does but an editor can’t compete with a full fledged DAW.

Some people will use both side by side. Usually the editor to edit individual samples before importing them into a drum sampler to create a kit in their DAW, which is one example.

I don’t know if I would consider it spyware, it’s a solid software.

I’m no expert but I don’t acutally know which type of telemetry data it will collect but the video posted above me says you can still grab it now before the new version is released which has those unwanted features.

Sounds to me like grab it now and don’t update it. Simple fix. Audacity has always been solid.
