Cool! That I wasn’t aware of.
Just read that frets were added to the bass neck.

Palmisano breaks it down pretty well from a musician’s point of view and a peer because his company has the teleport loop pedal.
It’s cool, not really my thing, much respect, I appreciate the effort, but probably not buying tickets to a show.
Do we actually know that these are guys?? Could be two chicks, for all I know… ![]()
I am gen X and love them
!
No one knows their gender status for sure, but my pure guess is the duo members are guys.
A little Googlage produced these info nuggets:
The duo prefers to remain anonymous
They self-name as Khn de Potrine and Klek de Poitrine
Khn and Klek often communicate using a hand gesture forming a triangle and refer to themselves as a "mantra-rock, Dadaist, Pythagorean-Cubist orchestra.”
So, math rock.
I sure as hell ain’t Gen Z, but I dig their musicianship mixed with performance art. To me, their shtick is equally as visual as it is musical.
Meh, close enough… ![]()
More from Google:
Angine de Poitrine began as a gag in 2019, when the pair were booked to play the same Saguenay venue twice in one week and worried nobody would attend the second time.
Their solution: show up in wacky getups.
“It was a bit of an Andy Kaufman-esque joke to play on people we knew personally — to throw a new musical proposition out there and try to fool them into thinking it’s not us,” recalls Khn.
“We found it quite funny, so we just kept it going on.”
So just for fun, I decided to transcribe the bassline for the first song in this video, Sarniezz.
If you’re feeling adventurous, it is actually playable on a regular bass. You just need to tune your D string to B half flat. Basically, tune it down to A#, and then up a little, so you’re half way between A# and B.
If you play the first 4 notes here, it should sound like 4 equal steps up, each one a half semitone.
There’s probably some way you could tune your strings to make the playing a little easier, but I was just messing around to see if it was possible.
That’s my first guess as well. I hope they will be able to keep their identity a mystery, because it is a lot more fun this way. They are very talented, their music and style is unique and original, and it all works so well. It is no wonder they got so famous so fast. It is the way they look and sound. I like reading the comments in some of their videos, some are so funny!
I watched this video yesterday and enjoyed it a lot. There are interesting camera angles and close-ups. (PS: we can see some hairy arms and legs there, so easier to guess the gender, but then again, I don’t know this species).
I guess the guitar/bass player needs to change strings very often. Look at how much white powder on the fretboard from the body paint!
There are some regions in Europe where all genders are hairy, so that’s not an indicator ![]()
I’m on Module 6 of Beginner to Badass, so I really shouldn’t be listening to GAS Guy, but “Fabienk” was all the motivation I needed to hunt down a fretless that my fun-size hands could handle. Kind of a poor man’s microtonal bass, but it will hurt a lot less to do the slides.
As for who’s behind the mask, the information is out there and easy to find for anyone who seeks it. But it’s so much more fun to not know.
