Wondering if any of you discovered the band Angine de Poitrine, 2 alien musicians from Quebec, Canada with a double neck custom guitar/bass, both microtonal (double the frets), that play with time signatures like crazy! Looping with his feet… Their music grew on me, it makes me smile and raise my eyebrowse!!! Now I am addicted! Would be curious what you guys think, and Josh too! https://youtu.be/0Ssi-9wS1so?si=tpw5ZX1kbp9J-FU0
Sarniezz has been playing on loop in my head ever since the first time I heard it. They’re playing in Glasgow soon, would’ve liked to go but it sold out in minutes.
I hear you!! Their music has been playing in my head non stop too for the last 2 weeks (since I’ve discovered them!). Good luck for tickets, they are sold out within minutes of going on sale! They will be offering a free outdoor performance on june 27th at the Festival de Jazz de Montreal, I will go for sure, there are 50 000 places so I should be ok I hope! They launched Vol. II on friday, the last minute of Yor Zarad, loooove the heavy bass
.
Yep, I posted about this band a couple of months ago.
Cool, I did not see your post, will look for it, thanks!
By the way, the “A little music related fun” thread is the traditional place for stuff like this and anything else that’s musically fun. It keeps the forum tidy.
Thanks. Was looking but couldn’t find
. Too bad the discussion went sideways on your post!!!
They have been playing together for over 20 years.
And, boy, are their arms tired!
Technically these two musicians are great. I can’t listen for more than 30 seconds or so before it sounds more like mechanically timed noises and feels overwhelming, though.
Just played this after listening to “Chosin’ Texas” and I have to say it didn’t make me want to buy a cowboy hat and stomp on it until my feet started hurting.
Yeah, I know and it shows, they are so tight.
I’m with you. I can admire their virtuocity but it feels too busy for me.
Their music works best while watching the video. I wouldn’t enjoy at all just listening to them without the video. I agree it soon starts to feel too busy. A huge part of their mesmerising effect comes from watching them playing. The masks, noses, the dots and the music all are important ingredients to create the final result.
Yes, Angine is the whole performance package. What they play in real time, for as long as they do, while wearing cumbersome costumes is nothing short of athletic.
Besides that, each guy is a beast on his instrument(s). In particular, the string player not only regularly switches from neck to neck (standard bass/microtonal guitar) while simultaneously creating loops and tone sculpting with pedals several times within each tune. Then there’s the choreography the guys weave in periodically.
The complexity of their rhythms and melodies are something else as well. They didn’t invent the style but they’ve sure embraced it and succeeded in bringing it to the attention of a mass audience.
So, love their music or hate it, but the guys have still achieved something improbable.
i like them but i also think that their songs tend to beat a dead horse a bit, they tend to be a little lengthy and it can take them a few bars too long to switch up whatever groove they’re locked into. minor quibbles for me though, because overall i think they’re pretty impressive. btw they did a press conference recently (unfortunately in french with no subtitles) but still it was absolutely hilarious and entertaining as hell
and i said it before recently, but i have NEVER seen a band blow up as fast as these guys have.
Too much gimmik for my taste but gen z seems to embrace this as well as anything Ai. Closing my eyes and listening to any band is the best way for me to judge the music. Like, a radio. To each their own and I apologize in advance if this is borderline trolling.
nah, we’re big fans of opinions around here. it’s all good.
dont know about this band, I usually love strange stuff, specially out of Canada, but this is only cool in video form, and only 1 or 2 times for me
and I willingly go to noise concerts.. lol
The bass is microtonal too ![]()
