Bass buying obsession

Good morning/afternoon/evening

I’ve just started to play bass and got this awesome course..

I just wanted to ask, does anyone else has this bass buying addiction? I’ve been constantly checking new basses to buy or trade and it worries me sometimes, how its never enough..

I jumped from player 2 series fender bass, to a fender jazz bass hybrid 2 Mij and now I slowly checking usa fenders :man_facepalming:t2:

I know that they say a new bass wont make you play better but… do anyone knows how to calm yourself down?

Best wishes

Yup. Note these are the second threads of each as we maxed out the first.

yes because: buying a bass is much easier and more immediately gratifying than playing a bass.

I’ve never had that kind of obsession as I have excellent self control,

You don’t know me now, but you will.

Same here. I only buy one at a time!

Well, except that one time when I bought two Dingwalls at the same time, a black SP1-4 and a white SP1-5. :guitar: :guitar: :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

That’s something I’ve never done. I, at least click “order” before hunting down the next one every time, no exception, online speaking of course. I picked up a “bundle deal” several times on offerup. :joy:

Welcome to GAS! Currently obsessed with Warwick haha.

I know what you mean. I started off with a Sire V8. I work for Sweetwater so that doesn’t help. Now that I know a little more about playing, I wouldn’t have gone the active J-bass route because it’s a heavy bass. So the Fender American Precision II was causing bad GAS until I caved. I bought the guitar. I put the Sire up thinking I may sell it. I took my Fender to a jobsite out of town and didn’t want to fly back with it so it rode with a buddy until I could meet up with him. In the meantime, I broke out the Sire and loved it so much I didn’t understand why I got the Fender. Then my Fender came back to me and now I love my Fender just the same. I have 2 bass loves in my life, one is called Jeanette (the Sire) and the Fender (I haven’t named yet). I have no idea what I’ll do with 2 basses but I love them both the same. The Sire is easier to play but the Fender is easier to control if that makes sense. The Sire doesn’t require as many muting techniques as the Fender. The Fender has a slight growl that I like when I want to play when I get into my feelings and the Sire is my choice when I want to play Ray Charles and James Brown.

I wish I wouldn’t have gotten the Fender because it wasn’t cheap. But now that I own it, I wouldn’t sell it. And I love it. So I’m stuck with 2 and I don’t intend on buying another. Yet.

You must be a superhero - working at sweetwater and not GASing about every second bass they carry …

It sounds to me that you have a severe condition of B.A.S.S or bass acquisition syndromes.

Hey @Al1885 - help this guy out in knowing what to do with more than one bass

You’re no Al (none of us are even in the same galaxy), but you aren’t exactly slouching in the bass acquisition game either.

Well give the guy a chance, he has potential, :joy:

I just found out, to my relief, I don’t have bass GASsing problem. I did not, I repeat did not buy any basses this holiday season, oh wait! the seasons is not over yet as there’s still a few weeks to go, anyways, since 11/11 big day for audio gears as well as my birthday, I bought about a dozen of IEMs, I just like gears I guess,

@steven.mathews I don’t know what to do with 2 basses either, I’ve never had that problem. ‘em boys probably want me to share my shed pics with you not to scare but encourage.

I always intend to get rid of one when I buy one, but…. Anyway just got a Sterling Stingray 4 and it has no dead spot on the “G” like Fenders so it’s a keeper ! I now have 5 basses and only use one at a time.

I can use 2 at a time but it’s a pain in the A$$
