My 7 year old is always trying to play my bass . I’m looking into getting a smaller scale bass for him to try. Any recs? Cheap and small would be lovely
this kid changes hobbies more then his underwear
The Harley Benton JB-62CC Mini is supposed to be great!
Unfortunately it’s currently not available. If you live in Germany, I can put you in contact with somebody who sells one new(-ish).
An alternative is the Blackstar TravelOn bass. I have it and I am very happy with it. If I had the choice now, I would get the HB.
My 7 year old nephew “played” it last weekend, and thoroughly enjoyed killing ducks & cowboys with Rocksmith 2014
A great alternative is the Ibanez GSRM20B. It’s 28", so maybe too large?
Anyway, it feels and looks great and sounds gown up.
Check out the Ibanez mikro.
The Squier Mini-P is small, light, and affordable.
I can thoroughly recommend the Ibanez GSRM20B Mikro Bass. It’s perfectly suited to people of a smaller stature (including myself ) so should also suit a child. It’s easy on the budget and packs a surprisingly big punch for it’s size

If you’re in Oz then Artist guitars in an inexpensive brand that does 3/4 sized basses.
Or the Squier Mini as previously mentioned.
I absolutely recommend Artist,
My son’s best mate has the entry level P Bass (but of course he wants a Fender now cos that’s what all the rich kids have), I have the fretless hybrid vintage, I also have their 335 clone and SG clone.
I don’t know that they have a super small model but they have 3/4 size.
(This way you also get a 3/4 size one)
Maybe start him on a Bass VI which is a 30" scale (and that way you also secretly get a Bass VI)
Not that I am biased and like my Bass VI and want more
Harley Bentons are great, but with shipping become dear as poison
