I’ve got a practice amp, but no sound coming from an old fender and acoustic. Tried on 2 different amps, no sound. Do these bass guitars need to be serviced?
Welcome to the forum!
Is there a 9 Volt battery required for either instrument?
Hohner acoustic looks like it takes a 9-volt. The Fender is old, but tunes well (no battery).
Still no sound with a fresh 9-volt. Plenty of pops and hum from both practice amps though.
Pops and Hum makes me think the input jack on the bass is damaged perhaps… I just fixed an old guitar that had no output and it was because one wire had come off the input jack.
Are you able to inspect it? If you don’t feel comfortable with looking inside the bass I would take it to a pro. Might be a quick reflow of a solder joint!
Also this sounds like an appropriate name for a blues band.
Have you tried a different cable?
I just hit up the FB page for my area to see if anyone can let me borrow a guitar cable. I’ll get back to you.
I hope that is the issue and you can start cranking again soon!
I have a Hohner Acoustic bass, plays nice on it’s own. But I do want to get these beautiful instruments amplified someday soon.
First, see if there is any sound whatsoever coming through the amp(s) even hissing, clicking or popping… Try a new cable and see if that works (borrow it). If nothing’s happening then take the pickguard off and douche out the potentiometers and switches with electronic contact cleaner spray. Use the extender tip to get in the pots and small crevices. Blot excess, allow to dry and carefully check all connections, especially the input jack. These parts frequently corrode and will stop any electric instrument dead in its tracks. If your instrument has an old paper capacitor in the connections, replace it. That should handle about 99% of normal problems.
