Gorgeous. It’s kind of an “ease them into liking Dingwalls” kind of look

@MikeC and @cg_postbunk : Wusses :grin: :sunglasses:

AFAIK, multiscale/fanned frets makes most sense for 5-strings (or more) on account of the B string

No argument there. I get the multi-scale design rationale.

What I meant to say was: I love the look of that bass - body design, finish, hardware, obvious workmanship - but I DON’T need/want a fiver, with fanned frets or otherwise.

So…

Since I dig that body design/finish/hardware/etc., I would rather have all that gorgeousness attached to a 4-string, standard-scale neck. :guitar::ok_hand:

:point_up_2:This. I heard it doesn’t take that long to get used too. Really nice bass

I totally got that  Just wanted to give a bit of a hard time…

A 4 would make a great BEAD bass

I totally get where Jörg is coming from though, even 34" B strings are on the flubby side for my liking. 35" and longer gets much better; many variable scale basses can get up to 37", which would feel great.

My only problem with 5’s is I prefer 19mm string spacing by, like, a lot. Everything else about them is fine.

Does this even exist as 5? I mean you can have a 6 string bass with 5 strings and the spacing of a 4

Not that I know of; hence, I don’t want any more 5’s

Which is kind of a bummer because I really love the large-radii necks. Mine was 22" radius and it felt amazing. Nice and flat.

Yeah, sorry guys - I didn’t mean to have this thread devolve into a 4 vs 5 discussion.

That said, Howard and @Paul, I will be getting my new 5-string this week and it has 19 mm string spacing. This is possible because ABM single bridges are used. The neck is 72mm at the 21st fret, and 50mm at the nut. I don’t recall the fretboard radius…

Nice! What is it?

It’s a Roks Nardis… I’ll share some pics once it has arrived (end of week probably)

Congrats! Very nice looking. Love the headstock, and the body has kind of a Mayones feel. Price is not so bad for a nice custom, either.

Aubergine?

Thanks! I used the funds I got from finally selling my saxes… wasn’t really going to play anymore anyway, but had a hard time parting with them…

Soooo… mine cost a little more, as I wanted American walnut on European walnut  Should be gorgeous!

Ooh, sounds very nice. Look forward to seeing it!

Keeping the TRB 5 PII? I assume you’re keeping the Mayones

It’s ok, you will be fine, they weren’t Conns :rofl::rofl:

Ugh, you are going right to the spot where it hurts

I don’t want to sell it; it’s too rare a bass… but, I probably need to make some space… don’t know yet…

Absolutely! It’s too good and it’s a four-string!

I will sell the H-B 6-string I have, but it’s hardly worth the effort

Man, yeah… that would be a tough one

i fully get this. With my previous injuries on plucking fingers, anything less than 17.5mm and i couldn’t play it at all. It isn’t the string spacing on the fingerboard, it’s at the plucking position.

I would fully love to have and play a 5 string, but until i can find or build one I’ll Just have to continue playing and learning on my 4 string models

I got that, Joerg.

It’s all good, man. Nothing but love.

And congrats. Can’t wait to see your new beauty!
