i love that Kim guy. he builds them himself.
It was your fault @Wombat-metal, I was perfectly happy looking at Bacchus Woodlineâs, was about to pull the trigger with Ikebe, and then you showed me the Pistolera. I even told my wife it was your fault. It didnât get me out of trouble, but I told herâŚ
Snitches get stitches
Well, she can blame me
And rightfully so.
I was kidding, she doesnât know itâs coming yet. She really doesnt give me any hassle about MBD, I think she prefers it over a boat. Since I started playing, I work less and stay home more. I have a sneaking suspicion she likes me.
I was ready to give one for the cause!
Seriously though, maybe itâs because it allows easy access to the electronics without having to remove the entire pickguard? And apparently the Jazz bass took its design cues from the Fender Jazzmaster guitar, so maybe that had something similar?
And this showed up for sale today for $370 USD.
Yamaha SB-1C âFlying Bananaâ from 1968, MIJ, Nippon Gakki Plant.
Looks like a nice find, depending on condition.
May be worth a bit more then that if it is in good condition.
The seller included a photo from Reverb, I believe, going for $1,000. This one does not seem to be in that good of a shape. Iâm not even thinking about buying it but itâs cool in itâs own way.
I would buy it and refinish it yellow, black pick guard⌠all day long
I would buy it if I was in My position to buy another bass.
But I am not, so thatâs that.
Yellow and black sound like a good plan.
The finish might not be great, but consider itâs age.
Hell, some pay big bucks to get a used look, but even so, it does not have to look new to be in good condition. With something like this, it would help to get it in your hands, see how it feels and what kind of life it has left.
If youâre looking for a nonstandard bass, would buy it. I love the SBVâs and the banana basses. Thatâs a great price assuming it has an intact truss rod.
actually the control plate of a Jazz Bass is more like a Jaguar than a Jazzmaster guitar. The Jazzmaster has a quite similar shape but the pickguard is in one part, like on a Precision Bass or a Stratocaster.
Fender Jazzmaster :
Fender Jaguar :
Yeah, I couldnât care less that the control plate is its own piece. It works and looks fine.
I much prefer when itâs in one piece, or a least the same color. Iâm not a big fan of those chrome plates, which is the reason why I donât like the Jazz Bass very much aesthetically. and thatâs why I have a black control plate on my J, to match the pickguard. no big deal anyway.
I have a jazz-adjacent bass, i.e., itâs neither a Fender nor a clonish-type, plus it has no control plate or pickguard. So whatever works for anyone who does own a Fender jazz-ish bass is fine with me.
