I’m Not sure @joergkutter
I thought Mark played Status, Jaydee and Alembic.
He may have owned or played a GB too. :man_shrugging:

I know a man who’d know for sure though… paging @brooksysbasscorner

Yeah, you’re probably right, @HowlinDawg

Hi Joerg,
There was never a Mark King Signature GB Guitars model - Mark used a couple of Spitfires for around 20 months through 1999-2000, then he used a pair of Rumour models for a few gigs before he reverted back to his Alembics. By 2001, he was using the Status Kingbass.

I do have a list of everything he has ever used, although obviously there is some replication of brands and models due to different finishes and specs…

But if you want a manufacturers list, it looks a bit like this:
Shergold/Hayman
Jaydee
Status Graphite
Zon
Pangborn
Alembic
Wal
Music Man
Moon
Warwick
Fender
GB Guitars
Gibson

Anything else would be stuff that he hasn’t used in public.

Thanks for clarifying this, @brooksysbasscorner - it just looked like it might have been made with Mark in mind

Wow; unless it’s chambered, it probably is one hefty hunk of wood :open_mouth: No, neck-dive though

The two main models of GB Guitars are Spitfires (formerly called the Standard and Bernie Goodfellow’s take on a Jazz Bass) and the Rumour which is generally his through-neck design, different body-shape. Bernie has always incorporated fancy timbers, LEDs and various technological developments to make his basses the best that they can be. In recent times, he has brought a couple of newer models to market but the Rumour and Spitfire are the basses he’s most associated with.

I’m extremely fortunate to have four of his creations, pics attached.

I wasn’t really aware of his work, and not all the examples I have seen I would find “interesting” (from a purely looks point of view), but the one he has on his landing page and poses with - wow, that is right up my alley; looks absolutely gorgeous!

I agree, @joergkutter. That is a beautiful instrument. I love a Jazz body over all others, and his take on the design is gorgeous.

Same here!

Are these Spitfires all one-offs (based on some unique piece of wood), @brooksysbasscorner ?

I also dig the shot of the electronics cavity here - wasn’t quite sure I was looking at a bass there:

Every GB Guitars instrument is a one off, all hand-built by Bernie himself. There is no production line or buying in of bodies and necks. For a long time, Bernie used swamp ash for his bodies with a fancy figured top but the customer can spec what they want and it will be priced accordingly. And yes, that is the circuit, again all tailored to the customers spec and requirements.

We had an orange '77 AMC Hornet with a beige fake leather interior. What a car that was! We called it Rusty, because it was.
