Bass Porn

Now that man looks like an old school bass player. I hope he goes onstage looking exactly like his picture. Proper.

Thanks, @MikeC - that’ll be reading material for tomorrow

Thanks Howard. We’re going to call the stores when we get there and make sure it is still in stock. It would be much easier to buy in Tokyo (less traveling around the country with it). No matter what happens with the bass, I still want to meet up.

Sounds good! I’m in Shibuya every day, just let me know when.

Well that is a long winded way to be inconclusive. And does not seem to apply to the BB line as the break angle is half that of normal guitars

Not trying to apply the essay to any brand. I know nothing of Yamaha instruments, one way or the other. Merely citing an informative article from an experienced player. Take it for what it’s worth.

Well actually I prefer the top-loading string mount on bass, and the thru-body mount on guitar. The top mount brings a thinner tone which help definition in my opinion, whereas the thru-body brings a more resonnant, wider tone, which sounds rich and deep on a guitar but a bit too muddy on a bass, probably because of the different frequency range.

That’s just my opinion, after earing and trying a lot of instruments. Obviously it’s kinda personnal, it all depends on what you prefer.

Also, note that at first I was sure I would prefer the thru-body mount on bass … but, no.

With all your praising of Yamaha, I will hopefully soon go to a place where I can try one out. Sadly in my neck of the woods, music stores are few and far between. And with a very limited selection.

I used to own the 6-string version of this bass. It’s not a bad bass, but, yeah, extrapolating from the 6- to the 7-string, I’d say @howard isn’t far off with his weight guestimate :joy:

It has its own gravitational field…

No, the seventh string is .017 sadly
