Yeah that’s what I was thinking too.
Kind of amazing how “tinny” the Stingray sounds in almost all situations - a bit disappointing actually…
It sounds like it might be biased a little too much towards the bridge pickup.
I tried a few stingrays in the past and they all were very focused in the midrange, which means they tend to sound thinner than some average modern basses. but it’s not always a bad thing.
Yeah as I mentioned I think it sounds awesome, almost overdriven.
Has anybody mentioned the Reverend Wattplower yet?
I like those too. Kinda fits in with my desire for a short scale SG type bass - and I’d prefer a Greco to a Gibson in that department btw.
Greco Short scale SG type bass. No idea what’s with the white paint, but I could live with it.
I love these basses! Great vibe, killer look. Thanks for the share.
The coolest bass is the bass you are playing.
I am in love
OMG the woodwork on that Dingwalls is just beyond sexy!
O.M.D! It looks gorgeous! The low end has a husky growl. The high end sounds like Stanley Clarke (School Days era).
I’m guessing the one downside is the price.
It just goes to show that cheap bass porn can be as good as the expensive stuff.
Just been into my local guitar shop looking at amps and thought I would have a look at the basses as well (as you do) and came across a Jackson JS3Q Spectra IV in amber blue burst.
This felt like a really expensive guitar. The finish and feel were excellent with a bound fretboard and the paint job (which is a little more subtle in real life)
I couldn’t believe it when they told me the price…
£260
So you bought it
Some nice features on that thing; active/passive switch, pickup coil splitter switch, 3-band EQ, nice bridge, dual humbuckers, 24 frets.
Poplar body with a maple top. Was it heavy?
@howard It was not heavy at all compared to the P bass next to it. I feels like a very small guitar. I thought it was a short scale bass when I picked it up and next to the other basses there it looked really short. For the money it is one hell of a bass.
Jackson are made by Fender so that maybe why they can do it for the price.
Decided to go pedal shopping in Ochanomizu today. No luck but I do admit the tube screamer on the left was tempting…
Anyway, I resisted the lure of the ESP custom shop but I couldn’t resist Kurosawa’s bass specialty shop. It’s a whole annex packed layers deep with amazing basses.
They just kind of go on and on like that. This is the “normal” room too; they have another full of Ateliers, Foderas and so on.
I admit they are where I got my avatar idea
There’s maybe a half dozen places like this in Ochanomizu, with a ton of smaller shops, all on the same few blocks.
I really love these Amethyst SR2400’s. Nice Warwick there too.
Oh. My. Deities!
How is there not a world full of Japanese bassists?
I can guaranty there aren’t that many basses in all the music shops from Edinburgh to Inverness - quite possibly not in all the music shops in Scotland. I’m not kidding; I was in a music shop in Edinburgh a few weeks ago that specialises in bass instruments - wind or string - and even they only had about 15 basses on the racks.
And that’s just one shop?
[faints]
There is!
Yep. It is one of the best ones though, along with ESP and some high end shops.
Suddenly this whole “bass porn” moniker makes a lot of sense
