Short scale??
That J pickup is so far back - must be very “farty”
What about the controls? Volume, tone, volume, tone?? Or?

K … I’m gonna be that guy. ( not trying to be… but… )
The angled pickups… ?? the poles are meant to be equidistant to either side of each string … right? Only time I see angled pickups is on Multi-Scale basses (Dingwalls, Ibanez … etc) …
without a straight on look, to see if the poles are positioned right… I can’t say much more.
Optically… Not a fan. the straight bridge pickup throws the look completely.
Yamaha knows what they are doing when they make instruments… don’t get me wrong… the look of this tho… is something I wouldn’t buy.
Just my opinion tho.
THAT is SEXY AF!
Yeah, kind of low key keeping my eyes open for one.
Unfortunately the double-P I really want, the SBV-J2, is unobtanium (except @John_E got one )
Only 100 of these exist. And yes, I know the SBV style is unusual, I love it and kind of collect them; I’ve owned two, and one of my two current basses is an SBV - and it’s the best made instrument I have ever owned
History of the model line is here:

The one I currently own is the SBV-800MF, Miki Furukawa’s signature model pictured here.
I’d love a J2 to sort of complete the high end of the line for the ones I want.
Why stop at 3? Make a super long scale (38"? 40"?) and go for 4 or 5.
Presumably, when using the Magnatone amp, the gig comes to you.
Dedication to searching like a mental patient makes anything obtanium
Me too, that’s killer.
I love these too, which should be no surprise as they were inspired by the Yamaha Flying Samurais like my SBV, which are my favorite basses.
Ok looking '87 Moon J-bass with a funky neck pickup.
This is Moon Japan, not the Scottish company; this was a custom shop small maker that spun off from ESP in the '80s; their shop is here in Tokyo. Among their artists at the time are Larry Graham and John Mayer.
Sticker marks are kind of a bummer though and the back is badly thrashed. Still I don’t see a lot of these.
Nice purple custom AtelierZ M#245.
2024 Momose MJ-Sakura.
not super expensive (~$2250) and they may have only made one like this (they don’t list the product run on this one; usually they only make a very limited number.)
edit: yep, another unique exhibit from the same guitar show as the next one.
Another of last year’s Sakuras, this one with a winter theme, apparently (per the description) a unique instrument made for a guitar show exhibit.
About $2600. Alder body, Sakura top, ebony fretboard. Very cool as Sakura blossoms do not exist in the winter and that’s kind of the fretboard theme with snow and frozen blossoms:
Oh wow, I love all their fretboard inlays, but this one I especially like!
Yeah that’s a keeper
