Yeah it’s totally Ritter looking, though the finish would probably be wilder if so.
- Very cheap !!!
0 USD is really a bargain
Sire is comin’ on strong.
I love my M5. It’s got a very lightweight Swamp Ash body, a fast/slim neck, an Ebony fretboard, and literally unlimited tonal options.
Besides having Sire’s great Heritage-3 preamp onboard, each of the M5’s pups can be independently split to be single coil, serial or parallel. In short, it’s a monster.
The new headless, multi-scale M6 has everything the M5 has, plus it is obviously squarely aimed as competition for a certain maker from the Great White North.
There’s also the Ibanez EHB range. They have some lovely looking 5 string, headless multiscale basses.
What they don’t have is a 4 string multiscale, like the Sire
Edited to include a Dingwall
And the Mayones Ori
If I’m honest, put the pictures side by side, I prefer the shape of the Ibanez (vs the Sire). And the Dingwall just rocks!
But I’m currently wedded to a four string… It’s going interesting to see the price of the Sire. Do they significantly undercut the Ibanez? If so, I think they will fly!
Given Sire’s history, I’d expect the M6 to be aggressively priced as the entire M series has always been.
I realize that there are other manufacturers that make headless multi-scales. But I can’t help but notice that the F10 single-cut was clearly aimed at Fodera-files. That’s why it seems to me that the M6 is aimed at Dingwall.
Kyle Kim’s Sire has established a winning strategy of punching way above its weight, going after the big boys, at player prices. And why not? It has worked beautifully.
Edited the post above to include a Dingwall Combustion. In terms of pure looks, I’d rate the basses:
- Dingwall
- Ibanez
- Sire
I can’t comment on how they all play though. My Dingwall is fantastic. I love my short scale EHB Ibanez, but it’s not a multiscale, and obviously, I haven’t played the Sire! But they Sire do play well…
Yep, the Dingwall and Ibanez have more esoteric body shapes.
The Sire M6 retains the body shape of the M series. That said, the features, materials, plethora of tonal options, and neck of the M series are outstanding. The entire package provided in M basses easily rivals others costing 4-6 times its price.
The Mayones Ori is impeccable, entirely in the highest strata of build class. It definitely is bringing it directly to Canada custom shop Dingwalls, including the high price point.
I know it’s a small thing, but I prefer the rounded shape of the Dingwall pickups, they work better than the straight edges of rectangular pickups on a multiscale.
Whatever floats boats gets the job done.
Looks more aimed at Ibanez to me. Well short of 37" B string scale.
Good to see Sire addressing their unattractive headstock shape by cutting it off. Smart work.
Ooh, I like that!
I don’t like how the tuners are exposed like that at the bottom edge, though.
Yeah, Sire is obviously desperate to win your approval.
hunh i’m kind of surprised by that. i think they’re pretty great looking.
btw i love NAMM season.
Check out the Sire booth at NAMM. These guys go through every Sire guitar and bass on display
For strictly bass offerings, skip ahead to the 19:27 mark in the video.
Purely on looks, I’d go with the Sire tbh. I like that finish that let’s you see the wood under the paint and (again purely on looks here) that bridge is sexy as hell. I also think I prefer that the multi scale really isn’t there above the 11th fret.
I just got a V5 but those V6s and P6s look awesome. Some really great new colors across all the ranges
I agree. Some really nice new color schemes for sure. The U7 is nice! That said I’ve been looking at a passive P (rather than an active P/J) and have an order in for a mint green P5. It’s back ordered! I noticed that new P5 color in blue w/ a white pick guard. on the wall That color isn’t generally available yet from what I can tell. Thanks MikeC for posting the YT vid.
The new EHB’s with the Fishman Fluence pickups look fantastic.
