Tobias makes some beautiful instruments. I don’t know anything about them, though.

Old school bass maker since the '70s, was bought by Gibson in 1990. Michael Tobias stayed on for a few years then left to form Michael Tobias Design (MTD) which are themselves some really nice basses.

Not really familir with them myself. TheBassChannel on YT is praising them. I like the neck thru and am curious about the asymmetrical neck profile. They have good components (Gotoh tuners, Babicz bridge and American made Bartolini’s).

Thanks for that. I did do some research too. Wish I could find one in a store.

My buddy had a fretless MTD he picked up while he was waiting for his Roscoe to be built. He was going to sell it to me when he took delivery of the new one, but ended up liking it so much he decided to keep it. Great looking bass and played quite nicely!

Yeah, I was looking at the Mike Herrera bass cuz well it’s ORANGE, but so I am worried about the pick up with two dummy knobs looks awesome, but need some reviews.

Love the matching headstock and white pickup.

Thats gonna have to wait a while tho

Um thats orange, if it were not a whale, I would take em both down

Yes, I saw that review on YT. My concern is all the online stores that have them in stock have “re-stock” units. Makes me think a lot of returns.

YMMV but seems to a a somewhat regular occurence for different manufacturers and online stores though.

Don’t know those specific Delano pickups, but the Delanos I have on my Lignum Spring fretless are outstanding. I like the preamp a lot (on both of my Mayones basses).

Only 8.5 lbs? For a 5 string? I’m impressed!

The weight is based on an average. It depends on the relative density of a particular Swamp Ash wood body per build.

The Maple neck is also roasted (torrefied), which removes moisture and contributes to its overall lighter total weight.

Plus, frets don’t weigh a lot, but not having them sheds a little tonnage. :joy:
