Its a bad ass bass.
It is the first guitar (of the mockingbird) that Kerry King toured with first time slayer played in japan. he got back and they gave him a signature guitar, he said, ok, why, I just play the thing.
They said because everybody in Japan called up and wanted to order the guitar Kerry King was playing.
They seem to have shrunk down to a small almost mom and pop shop, making all hand made basses and guitars of a few classic models, and then making to order for B.C. Artists and customers that order.
At least from what little I can tell by their website. Nothing like it was in the late 80’'s, thru mid to late 90’s
There was probably an era where they started spurting out mass produced junk, but now back to hand made instruments, I would think they are probably back to quality, but again, I did a little reading on their site about their story and the rest I am just figuring out how it might be.
Do you know much about their current instruments and the quality of the to order basses and guitars they have on their site now?
I was more comparing the original (70’s/80’s) and the asian-made 90’s models. I don’t know exactly what they do now.
that said, one of my best friends has a 90’s asian BC Rich, it’s far from an original but still a very decent instrument, it’s not at all what I would call crap. but not a real high-end hand-made instrument.
Yeah, I see Warlock Basses alot, from between $120 single p pick up, to $600 with double P pick up and the Big Horn BC Rich head, not the single sided Jackson looking headstock.
I only like the Warlocks with that big nasty headstock. I will have one one day, if I find a gem for nothing, that will be great, but if I just get a decent bass to play around on like my Dean MetalMan M for $150 or less, I will be happy just to have a warlock.
Now this on the other hand, good enough shape, put in new pick ups and clean it up, tuners bridge maybe, I have not looked it over well enough, just guessing what might make it nicer,
But it has the headstock, so well worth the $160 list, that would probably end up being $125-100, depending how long its been for sale, I didn’t really check, but its been at least a half a year.
BTW those prices he lists are credit prices, he takes a off for cash, perhaps more via negotiation with cash, will see as I think I will be headed back to pick up something next weekend.
Thanks for posting this @John_E. I didn’t know about this place only a half hour drive for me. Although, their gear looks a little too rich for my blood.
Real bass porn: looks only, the manufacturer no longer sells them and used ones are daaaarned expensive. The beast in question is the Mayones Custom Pi 4. I just love the look of this bass! Unfortunately used ones are north of $5K US.
